Hi there,
To start a new site, go to My Site. There will be a page saying ‘You don’t have any WordPress site yet’ with an option to create one. Select this and you can create a new site.
Alternatively you can create a new site by going to https://wordpress.com/start/.
There’s a support post on this:
https://wordpress.com/support/start/If you want to start for free, when you start to create your site, there are one or two options for free domain names, listed under the recommended domain name. When you are asked to select a plan, there is an option to have a free plan at the top of the page.
You can also publish the site for free. When you go to make your site live, it will ask again if you want to buy a domain name or a plan, but there are options to keep the free domain name and plan.
If you want to try out features of the paid plans, that will require you to upgrade, but WordPress offers a full 30-day refund on all plans if you aren’t happy with it. You can read more about plans here: https://wordpress.com/support/plan-features/Once you’ve made a domain name and started your website, there will be a list of steps (including customising your home page) on the My Home page to do with setting up your website.
If you want to edit what’s written on a page, go to My Site > Site > Pages and select the page you want to edit.
There’s a support post on this: https://wordpress.com/support/pages/#edit-a-page
If you want to go to the Customiser, you can go to My Site > Design > Customise.
The support post about customising your website is https://wordpress.com/support/customize/.
You can also check out video tutorials on customisation at https://wordpress.com/support/video-tutorials/customize-your-site/When you’re ready to launch your site, you can publish your site by going to My Site > Manage > Settings, scroll down to Privacy, change the setting to ‘Public’ and click Save settings.
There’s a support post on this:
https://wordpress.com/support/settings/privacy-settings/#launching-your-site
Your site will automatically be set to Coming Soon. You can make it public by going to My Site > Manage > Settings and changing the privacy settings.
If you’re not sure whether audiences will find your site interesting, one idea might be to set your site to Private, give access to it to people you know who have a WordPress account, and ask for their feedback. (You can still do this if your site is Public, obviously, but if you’re not quite ready for that yet you can give certain people access to your Private site.)One way to get more traffic (to a site set to Public) is by using keywords, adding tags and posting regularly.
