Annoying two-account problems
-
Hi, all.
I have, unfortunately, two WordPress accounts.
The one I actually use is http://claybonnymanevans.com.
The old one that constantly interferes with my trying to update the new one is a wp/admin address.
Both seem to be tied to the same email.
I think I was told some time ago that I cannot delete an account – but this makes it impossible for me to (for example) activate an Akismet plugin.
Whenever I try to buy Akismet, it only allows me to log in via the old account.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @claywise,
Actually you do have two logins, and you should. I can see that claybonnymanevans.com is a WordPress.org site. It has its own database with its own login system. We can’t access that.
But you can connect Akismet or other services we offer using your WordPress.com account and plugins connected to claybonnymanevans.com . Does that make sense? It may have a different password from your account at claybonnymanevans.com .
If you’re having trouble doing that, please let us know what error you’re getting. Thanks!

That does make sense. Problem is, even when I’m logged in at claybonnymanevans.com, when I try to access/activate Akismet, I am unable to.
And oddly, while I am able to log in to claybonnymanevans.com, when I use that specific login/pw to access Akismet, I get an error message that I have the wrong password.
Thank you for engaging – any further advice is most appreciated.

when I try to access/activate Akismet, I am unable to.
What happens when you try?
Can you log into WordPress.com first, then open your site in another tab and see if you can access our services?
To clarify, because one account is here and the other is on your own installation, you may well have different passwords.

I’m realizing, based on your first reply, that I’m basically on two different versions of WP.
I can open both versions in separate tabs, with separate login/pw’s. But when I click on the wordpress.org link for Akismet, I am not able to log in with my wp.org login/pw … I can only log in with the wordpress.com login (the old account, which I basically no longer use).
Does that make sense at all?

Yup, it makes perfect sense.
Your WordPress.com login is for the services we offer, including Akismet, Jetpack, VaultPress, and Gravatar — as well as the WordPress.com site hosting service if you are still using that. It will be a separate login from what you have in your own WordPress.org installation.
You can add the Akismet service to your installation. To initially authenticate, though, you would need to log in using the account associated with our services. Does that make sense?
