annual plan
-
hi, this is the second time i’ve reached out to you guys about my annual plan. the first time i did back in december i got no answer back. i was hoping to start publishing podcasts again for the podcast i have all set up through wordpress but i need to get an annual plan. i’ve never paid the full $300 price, i’ve paid $150 twice and 180 last year. i’m willing to pay 180 for my plan this year but i’m not super interested in paying more than that because i have to start paying another website for podcast analytics as wordpress podcast analytics are virtually non-existent. i mostly like wordpress but shooting these emails out into the universe and not hearing back sucks and then not getting any decent podcast analytics sucks too, and it sucks to have you raise the price on my plan and not raise the features. i also think it’s crazy annoying you can’t get a live human from wordpress unless you pay up for the annual plan.
so there you go, it would be great if i could hear back from you, i’m just looking to pay a fair price for what i get from you guys.
sincerely from a pretty long time customer and thanks.

Hey there! Can you share more information about the features you need on your site? Like all of our other managed hosting plans, the Business Plan includes maintenance and security. Unlike Premium and Personal, it also allows outside code, which makes maintenance and security more complicated. It increases the need for backups, too. That’s why it costs more. If we can help you find the right features so that you don’t require outside code, we can likely find a plan that is available now and matches your pricing needs.
- Will you be streaming from this site, or using another service to host the podcast files?
- You mentioned analytics; anything in particular that’s absolutely necessary?
- What other features does the site need?
Let us know and we’ll try to find a good match within our currently available offerings.

thanks for getting back to me. i need storage, that’s my main need. i’ve been building an out of print vinyl record archive (it’s around 100gb right now) and i need storage to post my podcast episodes though my podcast is very short and the files are about 30mb.
as for analytics i get a file downloads number and when i’ve asked about what that number means i got no answer unfortunately. i was just over at bluberry’s site and was impressed by the info they offer but i would be happy with numbers of plays and streams combined or anything really more than what i’ve gotten to this point.
storage and podcast info that’s pretty much what i do.
thanks.

Gotcha. The Business Plan would be your best bet if you upload the audio directly to our services. It has 200GB of space — should be enough! And you can install plugins that offer robust podcasting stats: Seriously Simple Podcasting & Seriously Simple Stats for example, or PowerPress.
If you’re looking for another alternative, you could potentially host your podcast files on a podcast-specific platform, and then embed them on our site. For example, you might consider some of the automation we have set up with Anchor.fm. If you do that, please follow the steps in that article for best results (e.g. don’t create the site and podcast separately then try to connect them).

Is that one big file, or do you have it broken out into tracks? We’ll want to check to see whether there’s a file size upload limit and whether there’s a workaround for a one-time upload.

hi, this is not helpful as i already know all this. i’ve never paid that full $300 annual plan price and i don’t have much interest in doing that when i have to go pony up for podcast analytics.
i would really like to corrrespond with someone higher up who can look at what i’ve paid in the past and tell me how much wordpress is going to charge me for this business plan for 2023.
please forward this up the food chain and let me add this is a very obtuse way to conduct customer service. no phone number, no personal email and i’ve just spent four days ending up with a recommendation for a plan i’ve had for years.
i know this is a trend for tech companies to offer little or no human contact with their customers but i don’t have to like it.
could i speak with a manager please? you guys have my email and i would like to take this off the forum for non-paying customers. thanks.

Hi!
All of our colleagues are equally empowered to answer your queries regarding the plan costs. You can always find your receipts for previous purchases via your Billing History:
https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/billingIt looks like you previously renewed using coupons that were emailed out as part of our marketing campaigns; should you wish to renew using a similar coupon then it’s definitely worth keeping an eye out for our promotional emails, since the standard cost of the Business plan is indeed $300 per year.
At this time it doesn’t look like you have an active plan on your site https://http://thecrosspollinator.wordpress.com/ ; it seems like you last renewed on 30 December 2021, and your plan subsequently expired on 30 December 2022 – that’s likely to be why you’re directed to the forums. I’ve had a look and I can’t see that you reached out to us in December; was that using a different email address than the one associated with this account?
-
yes i did reach out to you before the plan expired and got not answer at that point in time.
this last reply appears to be a very polite way of saying it’s $300 unless i sit around waiting for a marketing coupon to rain down upon my email account.
all of this would be much easier to deal with if you guys acknowledged that you offered a podcast option to your customers without any analytics at all. none, nada, zip. i understand that if you said yeah you’re right we don’t have any analytics for you that would lead to a lower price for my annual plan as it’s a big hole in your service so you’re just kinda brushing that fact off.
i’ve always found wordpress surprisingly chill to deal with but it looks like those days have ended.
i’ve been blogging on this site for 15 years and nobody in the mothership out there is ‘yo this dude has been here a long ass time and his podcast is doing pretty well (maybe, i don’t really know cuz i get 1 number to go on) we should represent and cut a deal for this guy.’
it’s all up to the coupon gods now i guess.

Our built-in stats can support file download numbers, or you can use a Business Plan to expand your options. $300 sustains the extra maintenance, backups, and security we provide with that plan. 50% off is a rare promotion and not a renewal price, and we do not have cheaper plugin-supporting plans in our pricing mix right now (besides, that other plan you mentioned wouldn’t have given you enough space, iirc)
Your other option is using a free DIY copy of WordPress, and hiring out hosting and any other services you need. Jetpack Security includes backups, security scans, and spam filtering, so I’d recommend that and excellent hosting for a comparable experience.
We can’t haggle on the price, but if you have any other questions about our services that we have not answered yet, let us know.

hey, could you do a 301 redirect so i can point listeners to my new rss feed?
here is my new rss feed:
https://feeds.blubrry.com/feeds/1465779.xml
i understand i no longer have a paid plan but it would be great if you could do me this service in a timely manner as i migrate my podcast out of wordpress.
thanks and i will be checking back.

We do not advise or offer redirects that blanketly redirect
oldaddress.wordpress.com/every/thingtonewaddress.com/onefile.xml.If you must do it anyway, we do sell one redirect option that will send every page, like
oldaddress.wordpress.com/link, to the same page atnewaddress.com/link; perhaps your current provider could then redirect that all to the same file for you. I would not recommend it, though. -
hey ya:
i just got off the phone with blubrry and i don’t want a blanket redirect. they told me to tell you that i need to have my present wordpress feed:
https://thecrosspollinator.wordpress.com/category/the-magic-organ/feed/
forwarded to my new blubrry feed:
https://feeds.blubrry.com/feeds/1465779.xml
you should be able to do this for me so i can retain the subscribers that i’ve gathered over the two years i had my podcast at wordpress.
thanks and i hope to hear back from you soon.

The only redirection option we have for sites that don’t support plugins is the one I mentioned. Here’s a full article on how it works. If you can find a way to make it work with their service, here’s how to add it.
-
yeah yeah i’ve seen elsewhere in the forums that this doesn’t work and the $13 redirect option doesn’t work either.
so this is a non-solution solution.
i guess i will have to manually change the rss feeds on all the platforms that i have the podcast going out to. thanks.
