anonymity
-
I have a user name which is not my real name – I am concerned that when I blog my real name will appear, can someone confirm that my blog will be anonymous?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you never provide your actual name online and associate it with your blog or the email address that you registered the blog under then you have nothing to worry about. The weakest link is you. The breadcrumb trail of information that you leave online can be used to identify and locate you. Do not provide images of your kids and relatives and friends. Do not provide information about where you live and work. Do not provide any personal information at all online.
-
and DO NOT tell friends about your blog – sooner or later they will post something to the effect “visit Mary’s new blog nuts.wordpress.com” or something like that – and that probably goes to even sending them a link to the blog also
-
Good point! It’s important to know that there is no such thing as being anonymous online. When we blog under a pseudonym we still leave breadcrumb trails. If we choose a pseudonym that can be associated to us we have defeated our purpose. When we let anyone we know that we blog, where we blog or what the address is we have blown our cover.

Thank you! I have no intention of writing anything contentious anyway. I have provided my name and email address to wordpress as I had to in order to register with them. I wondered if these would automatically appear on my blog.
-
If and when you comment on another blog your email address will be displayed. Many of us use a throw away email address rather than using one that is our personal email address for friends and family use.
If required, you can register another email address that does not contain any personal identifiable information and then update the email address here. http://en.support.wordpress.com/email-address/

It will not appear on your blog unless you post it on your blog – however as noted by @TT above it might show up when you comment on other blogs,

Right. So if you registered your WordPress.COM username account under an email address that contains your name or anything that renders you personally identifiable, then you can create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the only your unidentifiable username behind.
-
And do not use Publicize or connect your account here with Google Plus. It automatically changes your username to the username at Google Plus, which because of their policies is probably your real name.

the problem with a Throwaway address is that it might go away, access might be lost to another user or any one of many things – and if you ever need to reset the password or anything, that reset will go to an email you might not own – please exercise caution

Important point! Thanks for sharing it.
