Anonymous comments

  Hi,

  I posted a question about this a day ago or something, but I think I might need to reformulate it, since I probably wasn´t clear.

  I have recieved two comments now from an anonymous commenter.
  There is nothing offensive or anything about the comments, but I haven´t accepted them since I don´t understand the Anonymous thing.

  I have understood that if you accept, or reply to a comment, the original commenter will be able to see your e-mail adress, and I don´t want it shown to a spammer or anything.

  On the other hand, I don´t want to be rude if it´s just a person who doen´t have a wordpress blog.

  Should I just assume that an anonymous comment is spam or something?

  Sorry if I sound daft, I´m still learning how things work.

  Hello,

  I’ve tagged your discussion with modlook, this way a staff can actually take a look at those comments and better advise on whether they are spam or not.

  An anonymous comment is not always spam, check the email address they used and the content of their message, and try to use your best judgment to decide if it’s spam or not. Spammers nowadays are pretty savvy so this can be tricky.

  Thank you for understanding what I mean :)

  That´s the thing, there is no e-mail adress as far as I can tell.

  I know that two of these kind of comments isn´t much, but I´m trying to figure out how to deal with it in case I get more in the future.

  Hi there,

  Usually, you can identify spam comments because they are either gibberish or they are very generic, positive comments about your site. Spammers generally leave a URL, rather than posting completely anonymously, because their goal is to get you or your site’s readers to click to their site.

  As long as the comment is on-topic and relevant to the content of your post, it’s generally safe to assume it’s not spam. It’s more likely just someone who would prefer to keep their identity anonymous. :)
