Another Audio Embed Issue

  • Unknown's avatar

Three months ago I asked for assistance with getting audio embeds to work. I received alot of help with it and the solutions work completely.

Now I have a similar issue with embeds but not exactly the same. I have been using the short code [audio ] to hotlink to mp3’s I have uploaded to DropBox and haven’t had any problems but over the past weekend and all this week, I have not been able to use this method anymore. I haven’t done anything differently at all. I still use the short code and then highlight the actual hotlink URL and click the unlink button to allow the audio player to work when the play button is clicked after I publish.

For some unknown reason, anything I have tried to do this with recently now only shows the short code and URL when the post is either previewed or published. I attempted to use FileDen just to see if there was compatibility issue with DropBox but it will not allow this to work now either. I also checked the properties of the mp3’s to make sure there was nothing amiss. All seemed fine with them.

Did something change with WP policies? Is this more of a WP support issue?

Before the New Year I did have some albums available for download at my blog, but have recently removed those links as part of my NY Resolution/Commitment to the artists I review to not freely give thier work away. Did someone report me or something after the fact? Is my blog hotlink priviledge restricted in some way now? If so, no one sent me a “heads up” email.

As always, any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need the URL’s I have been trying to use or any other info please let me know.

Hi! (I remember you: it’s me that had suggested Fileden to you, and it’s thanks to you I learned about DropBox.)

I’m not aware of any changes re the audio player – works alright in my blog. Perhaps you should publish a post so we can take a look at it and try find out what’s wrong.

In the meantime note that you needn’t go into the trouble of breaking the links: just paste them in the html editor, not the visual.

OK, will do. I just wrote a page the other day and tried to add the audio to it but it keeps showing incorrectly. The page is titled, Know Da Ledge on Drop Beats Not Bombs.

Just published it and it is still showing the URL instead of the audio player. Does the player only work for a post and not a page? Just asking cause I was having the same issues with my latest post as well so I had to publish it without the audio player.

    – Posts and pages are the same as far as the editor is concerned. It’s only in text widgets that the audio shortcode won’t work.

    – In general, avoid using spaces or other punctuation on the titles of your mp3s.

    – I tried the mp3 you’ve put in that page. With [audio URL] I got the same problem. With [audio=URL] it worked.

Took me a while to locate the page http://soulreservoir.wordpress.com/know-da-ledge/

Hmm – my first thought was that it was the spaces in the file names. Then I tried the file on my test blog – it worked fine. Then I thought it was the theme. Nope – it plays fine http://vjptestblog2.wordpress.com/test-audio/

So I have no idea what the problem is.

Ok, so I should try it with = between the audio and URL? Will do. I will also make sure to not change mp3 titles or at least use (leave) the underscores in them iin the future. I always wondered why some people put them there. Oh and hi Vivian! *waves*

  • Unknown's avatar

I guess you can try the = sign. But I put it straight into the visual editor and it played. Panos – did you put it in the visual editor or the HTML editor?

  • Unknown's avatar

That did the trick. It needed the = between the audio and the URL. Plus, I was even able to get the audio for the complementary post I wrote to work buy adding the underscores back into the title. I had to take it out before to meet my deadline.

I have to slap my hand now because I was seriously considering moving to another host but the forum here always comes through for me and I apologize for those thoughts. Oh and panaghiotisadam I’m glad you found DropBox. Isn’t it great? It’s really working for me when it comes to sharing files for the radio show and just audio for posts in general.

Thanks again to both of you for the timely response and accurate solutions.

    @Vivian: html.

@squarerootz: Glad it was an easy one to puzzle out. And yes, DropBox is great because of the sizes it allows – thanks for that!

  • Unknown's avatar

Apparently, then, the = is needed in the HTML editor but not in the visual editor.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well I’ll be damned! I tried it and it’s so. Accepted wisdom was it makes no difference…

  • Unknown's avatar

Yeah, well, that’s why I asked since I was able to get it to work without the = sign in the visual editor.

    Hello there!

I hope it is ok if I write in your topic but you all seem to know what you’re doing:)

I’ve just begun my blog here at wordpress and so far I’m really pleased. However, I was thinking about adding an internal player for like a song every monday or so. I read on another place here in the forum that flash doesn’t work so the idea I got from a friend doesn’t work.

He has http://www.deezer.com/ at his blog (on another webhotel) He can add a player and track, just like you did vivianpaige on your testsite. If I understand it correctly you have to upload those tracks and by that breaking copyrightlaws? I’m not interested in doing that and I assume WordPress doesn’t allow it…

So: I would like to add an embedded player much like yours and through that play tracks that I stream from another site. I don’t know if its possible to understand what I mean. I am kind of new to this so apologies if theres any problems getting it:)

Would really like some help as I am anxious to play my favorite tracks.

    Kind regards / Peter
