Another Forum Closed … Stats Pages Updates

    Here we go again. A forum opens dealing with the new ” updates” … and when it rapidly appears that most posters don’t like those upgrades, then the forum is abruptly “closed. Here’s another one which just bit the dust after a week …

    Notifications just got a boost!

    We are being muted by having the topic closed as soon as it’s clear that the new direction Word Press is taking ISN’T getting the thumbs up. If you stand by your designs, then show us HOW it is an improvement. For anyone except teenagers tweeting on their cell phones.

    Give us the CHOICE of “classic” or “upgraded”. That’s the way to end this controversy once and for all if the developers are hell bent on their new unpopular design. Meanwhile just chutting down forums is not good management or PR.

    http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2015/01/20/notifications-improved/#comment-216875 is not a forum thread. That’s a blog post on the WordPress.com News blog. Comments on those blog posts are routinely closed after a certain time and it has nothing whatsoever to do with users supposedly being “muted”.

    Sorry I stand corrected on this. My only excuse for this lapse is that so many threads have been closed that I am overwhelmed. Nevertheless the number of comments in a single week and the tenor of the comments is telling. Since the author of each blog is responsible for closing comments, I would assume that had they been more favorable, the closure might not have been so quick. ( Heck I’d do the same thing if I were promoting an idea and wasn’t getting support … I’d close them in a nano-second)

    All commenting gets closed on the News blog after about a week.

    Many forum threads where people are generally unhappy about a new feature or a change in feature can sometimes remain open for weeks on end until they turn into a flame war or head entirely off-topic. Then appropriately they are closed.

    Forum threads are also automatically closed after a month (I think) of inactivity.

    That thread is still very active and staff is still monitoring it and responding to feedback.
