Another question about adding tags

Here’s what I don’t understand, on my WordPress dashboard, there is a section called “Posts”. In the listing for that section, there is a subsection called “Post Tags”. When you click on that title, it takes you to all the tags you’ve created. Now here is my dilemma, why is it that when I am either creating a new blog post or editing an older post, I can not select from this list of already created tags? In other words, I have to start typing each tag, rather than have the option of selecting from the already created list in my “post tags” section. Is this something entirely different then the tags you associate with your blog posts? And if so, then what’s the point of the “post tags” section? I’m just very confused about this interaction between adding tags to your blog posts and having a list of tags that you can not choose from when adding tags to your blog post.

Any clarification would be GREATLY appreciated.

The tags module of the post editor does include the option of selecting existing tags: it’s right under the type box.

I saw that, it’s a link that says: Choose from the most used tags in Post Tags, but when I click it, it brings up a message that states: No tags found!

However, when I go to “Post Tags” section, I have a 2 pages of tags listed there. Granted, I have never used any tags on my posts, but it seems that the only way to do this would be to hand type each tag in on a post, for me to then be able to select those tags in the future without typing them in. My problem, is that I have already created a list of tags in the “post tags” section and I can not seem to understand the point of a “post tags”, if I can not readily use them for any post, even if it’s for the very first time that I am using tags. I hope that makes some sense…

Well you should have added the tags the “normal” way: in the post editor. The Tags screen is basically for checking and bulk deleting.

BUT, since it also includes an “Add a New Tag” option, in my opinion it should work the way you want. AND, the otherwise similar Categories screen does work that way: in contrast to tags, if you add a new category there, it becomes available in the post editor as well. I suggest you submit this request in the Ideas section of the forum (which is for suggestions to staff).

I ended up, in a round about way, adding the tags to each of my blog posts. So the deed is done, but thank you, nonetheless, for your replies. Take care!
