Another question about organising categories
-
Call me dense, but I just cannot get my head around this…
My main blog – which I believe is linked to forum – has five posts. Four in one category, and one in another.
Then why, when I open the blog do I see the five posts, one above the other in the order of:
Cat. 1
Cat. 2
Cat. 1
Cat. 1
Cat. 1How do I configure all this, so that all the posts in one category are together on one page, and those in another category are on another page? And if/when I add another category, to get it on another page. I just don’t want to see them all mixed up on one page.
And please guys, baby steps and single syllable words for this computer illiterate.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s easy. When you open the blog, you see the main blog; that is where ALL your posts go, regardless of category. If you want to see just the posts in one particular category, you put the category widget in your sidebar and then you click on it. You cannot avoid that one page where all the posts are in reverse chronological order; that IS the blog.

Thanks raincoaster. So where it shows the categories on the side, that is what I click on.
That leads me to another question. On my mother blog – http://www.mytrip2009.wordpress.com – it has a drop down menu for the categories. Is this something inherent in that theme, or is this something I can change through some setting….. somewhere?
Your help is so much appreciated.

I believe some themes support it and some don’t. Try editing your widget and see if you’ve got configurable options there.

I think all of the themes that support widgets have dropdown as an option. Go to appearance > widgets and then click on the “edit” link on the widget, select “show as dropdown” then click “done” and then click “save changes.”

Thank you, thesacredpath, that did it.
Now while I was on that page, I noticed that near the bottom there was an option called ‘platial mapkit’. Since I will be doing a travel blog, I figured this could be useful. However, when I click on it, and then on the link that comes up, the page just freezes. I tried it several times, and several which way, but it did not come up with, what I would have thought, i.e. something to do with a map.
Anyone know anything about that option?

Thank you ellaella, that worked. I tried both, and one worked… can’t remember which one. LOL
And after seeing it, decided it was not what I wanted.
As you can see, I now have an avatar, compliments of the wonderful helf from the folk at support. After getting a screen shot from them, I realised that what everyone was telling me to do, just does not show up on my screen. (Still doesn’t.)
Anyway, my avatar is in place, and for the time being, all my questions have been answered. Thanks a lot everyone.
