Another Typepad refugee with a question about import, etc.

  • Unknown's avatar

I want to import my blog from Typepad over this coming month along with the domain to a Professional or Business site on WordPress.com. There are almost 1900 posts (although I may be doing some post archiving) and 3 static pages to transfer. I’m assuming I can purchase the site, import my file from Typepad, build the site using a WordPress.com domain and then, when ready, transfer the domain to go live?

I am aware that the importing tool seems to be having some issues, perhaps due to the large number of Typepad users who are transferring into WordPress. If it’s not that, are there specific issues that may cause issues with the Import?

    Hi there!

Thanks for sharing the details of your migration plan. Just to confirm, are you planning to start by importing your Typepad content into a WordPress.com subdomain and then connect your custom domain once everything looks good? That flow would work as expected.

Regarding Typepad imports please know that we are still working on finalizing how to handle Typepad → WordPress.com migrations and will keep you posted as soon as there’s an update.

    We appreciate your patience!

Yes, that’s my plan. While we all are on a short time schedule, if you’re nearly there that should work for me. I hope to be able to cut over to the new site around September 23rd (I want to pare down the number of posts before I export and import, which will take some time). Thanks so much for the guidance!

    Hi,
There is now a support guide to help you with migration from Typepad. You can find it here

    https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-from-movable-type-and-typepad/

Let us know how it goes or if you encounter any issue.
