Another WordPress site is stealing my content

Hi all, I am a frequent blogger with WordPress.com and love it! So, first off, thank you :)

I write original content for my blog. I received an email today from another blogger who found out that her content was being “scraped”, a WordPress.ORG site has been copying and pasting her blog posts into their blog posts and passing them off as their own and profiting from it, since they run ads on their site. Sure enough, I found that this scraper site has been plagiarizing me as well, lifting entire original blog posts from my blog and posting it to theirs with no credit given to me, in fact one post of theirs they actually did credit themselves as the original author!

They are doing it to multiple writers. They did it twice to me specifically that I know of. I contacted them and told them to correct it, which they did to one of their stolen posts but not the other. The blogger who’s also been victimized said they will not respond to her requests to take down or credit her work. Just from perusing this site, I see other writers work being passed off as theirs, not sure how many people know about it.

When I went to fill out the appropriate WordPress.com complaint about this, it says that if it’s only happened a couple times then likely no action will be taken against the site that is “scraping”. My question is: what if it has only happened to me twice but is happening to a bigger number of bloggers? Do we each have to file separate claims and will this do any good?

(I have screen shots of the offending blog using my work.)

    Thank you kindly!

    Clarissa

Where exactly did you see this? Our policy on copyright violations are available here:

Copyright Infringement – What to Do

For sites on WordPress.com you need to file a DMCA takedown request and we remove the content immediately if we find it’s really a violation. However, we can’t do anything about sites not on WordPress.com as they are not on our servers and we don’t have any access to them.

If a self-hosted WordPress.org site is copying your content you need to report them to their web host, who will most likely also require you to submit a valid DMCA complaint. If you give me the domain of the site stealing your content I can help you find out who their host is, but we’re not able to provide any help beyond that.

    Thank you!

I had never heard of this type of thing before Monday and I was, of course, very upset and I think I misunderstood some things I read. Sorry for causing confusion with my wording.

The offending blogger (she is on self hosted WordPress.ORG) has responded to my emails by taking down the posts she scraped from me. She still has a blog full of other peoples content, but that is not my place to say something about it. I will monitor her blog and if I see my content scraped/plagiarized again I will follow the instructions in the links you’ve provided.

Thank you again! It’s a relief to know what actions I can take if this happens to me again.

  • Glad I could help, and I’m glad that contacting them helped.

Your ownership of your content is protected by international and local law, so you always have options if someone steals your content.

Please let me know if I can help with anything else.
