Antenna not supporting IE8
-
12% of our most influential clients use IE8. Seems like Antenna premium theme doesn’t support IE8 although their website says it does (see https://creativemarket.com/designorbital/47982-Antenna-Magazine-Theme)
Is there a configuration, PlugIn or something I can add to the JavaScript Editor that will help me with this? I am using this theme in WordPress Enterprise so have no access to FTP or the header.
Best,

IE8 is an outdated browser version. The most recent version is IE11. Only 1.6 % of those browsing the web in October 2014 were using it. http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_explorer.asp I don’t believe expecting support for IE8 is realistic.

No.
See here for that kind of capability http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ For web hosts see http://wordpress.com.org/hosting/

Oh wait! You are VIP hosted and posting to the wrong support forum. That’s a VIP hosted blog and we don’t provide support for it here. http://vip.wordpress.com/ You must have a support link in your dashboard somewhere for VIP support that links to https://wordpressvip.zendesk.com/

@timethief,
Yes, I have seen all of the “stats” out there many times, but they don’t matter to me in this case. I develop for a financial company whose clients work in giant companies that have 600+ legacy webapps that only work in IE8, so they have not yet upgraded. I have to support them. They make up 12% of MY CLIENT base.I just saw the other comments you made and I am not a VIP client, but an Enterprise client. Not the same thing. We cannot affect the header to “fix” the issue with the theme.
If anybody has any solution, please comment. Or if you know of a premium WordPress.com theme that is responsive and works in IE8, please let me know.

I know the browsers and versions of them that are supported are found at http://browsehappy.com. I know that IE9 is still supported. I’m sorry about the support link confusion. http://vip.wordpress.com/our-services/ I’ve tagged this thread for Staff assistance. Please subscribe to it so you are notified when they respond.

Themes on WordPress.com currently support versions of IE going back to IE 9.
Unfortunately, IE 8 doesn’t support many HTML 5 and CSS 3 techniques, which is how themes have been built for the last several years, and that’s why some themes will simply not look the same in IE 8. This site will show which CSS and HTML techniques work in which browser versions: http://caniuse.com/
If you need your site to look the same in IE 8 you may want to look for an older theme that does not use HTML 5 or CSS 3. You may find that these older themes are not responsive, so you can try activating the mobile theme so the site is readable on mobile devices. You’ll probably also want to first test each theme’s demo in IE 8 to ensure it looks as you want, since we don’t keep a list of themes that will work in IE 8.
In terms of a script that you might be able to add to your theme to get backwards compatibility, you could try asking the Enterprise support team whether this is possible, by putting in a support request through the contact form in your dashboard, which is how Enterprise support is provided:
