Any advice for categories that failed to import?
-
I imported my entries (exported from http://thecoffeespoon.net/waslost ) but the categories have not mapped correctly. Is there any way I could easily reconstruct them? I have almost 1500 posts, so manual re-categorising is not a good option here.
Thanks in advance!

Everything appears to be in order with the export file. The only suggestion that I can make at this point is that we empty out your WordPress.com blog so you can re-import it.
-
Sure, I guess that’s an option. Nothing that can be done if the categories still fail to import, though? =/

Unfortunately, no.
If you do want to go that route, I recommend disabling all plugins on your current blog before regenerating the export file.
I didn’t see anything wrong with your file, but one of your plugins could have interfered regardless.

Just to be sure, because it can’t be undone, is http://louistify.wordpress.com/ the blog that you want emptied?

I have emptied you blog as requested. Please feel free to try again and let us know how it goes!

I’ve just restarted the import process (after re-exporting with plugins disabled), it seems like the categories are still not being imported. What a pity! Guess I’ll just live without categories for all my older posts, then…
(I’ve done some googling and seems like it’s a relatively common problem, still no idea what’s causing it?)
In case it helps, my previous WordPress installation was networked ( like MU?), not sure if that’s something that might mess up the process?

This was a common problem, but has since been fixed with no recent reports, hence why I’m puzzled.
Maybe a networked install could be cause. We certainly don’t get many of those.
One last hope is that it can take 24 hours for the import to complete, so maybe they just haven’t been imported yet.
