Any chance of support for Movielocker.com
-
I’m an experimental film maker, and although I use the wordpress video feature I recently discovered Movielocker (it uses the silverlight plugin). Theres a lot to like about it, mainly that it keeps the streaming bit rate and resolution (quality) of your uploaded work the same as what you upload at. My recent work has a high level of detail and rate of change in some shots which make it pretty much impossible to use another service (or else I just can’t get the encoding right at all).
At the moment it’s not on the list of video services we can embed in our blog, is there any chance WP will provide support for it in the future ? Does anybody else here use it ? At the moment I’ve just added a post with a url link to it.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Given that it appears to require a special Microsoft plugin to view videos, it’s unlikely we’d support it at WordPress.com.

Silverlight plugin is not more specially than Adobe Flash and it grows popularity every month as more powerfull and lightweight alternative of flash. Check out http://riastats.com/ – now about 50% users are ready for Silverlight. By the way, LJ has added support of embedded silverlight players in their posts.

heh, what polysnthetic said, there is nothing untowardly ‘special’ about silverlight (apart from being a better alternative to flash and flv etc). No I was just wondering if wp.com would consider providing us with a workaround much like you do for youtube, vimeo etc (the [service-video id] code thing). Or in a wider sense, someway where we’ll be able to use the normal embed codes such sites provide that would be deemed ‘safe’.

@polysynthetic and thebecominganimal
Will both of you please post the URLs for the blogs which you are referring to please starting with http://

timethief, we’re not actually talking about specific blogs. We’re talking about a video hosting service. My blog is at http://www.thebecominganimal.com (but its not relevant to what I’m inquiring about or suggesting) and the hosting service is http://movielocker.com as per my op. I’ve just put up a text post on my blog to link to my video on movielocker. All I’m asking is if wp.com will eventually provide a way to embed from movielocker like we have for other video hosting services.

Okay and I see that Tellyworth has already answered you above:

But the other video services wordpress.com do support use plugins to work as well. Or else they are embedding it, and streaming it from the host site (a la youtube, vimeo etc). This is not different to how movielocker is working, they provide embed scripts.
-
That didnt make much sense, basically all streaming video uses plugins in your browser is what I’m saying.
