Any negative effects of continually adding content to a post?

• Unknown's avatar

I have a post that I continually update with content. I don’t delete the old content, just keep adding. It’s kind of like an endless reel, with the most current content at the top. I use it as a ticker, where people can check in to see what’s new. Are there any negative side effects to this approach i.e. will search engines frown on endless reels?

Yes search engines will frown a endless reel,
plus if you’re referring to a old post you could
link to it with a new separate post (Separate Post Page)

/nod to teck

That might be better off on a page, instead of a post.

Sacredpath: yes, that’s what I am doing – adding to a page. It seems I don’t have the option to add new posts to a page other than the “home” page i.e. if I want to add to the “about me” page all I can do is keep adding to the page, but not create a new post. Is that correct or am I missing something?

Link to your blog please starting with the prefix http://
so we can get a better understanding and to see what blogging
platform you are part of.

Here is the Solution for that. thank you for the link
but you cant use www because it blocks the link.

you can use these short cuts also
<!--nextpage-->
this will put page 1 page 2 at the bottom of the post.
<!--more-->
and this tag will break up your post…

<!--more continue Reading → -->
and this tag will break up your post
& put in your post Continue reading →

Pages that you make are static and sit outside the blog structure. They are typically used for static content such as about information, comment policies, etc.

Posts will always show up on the main blog page.

This may help understand the differences between pages and posts: http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/11/a-post-and-a-page/

You’ll want to use the next page one and if you use it every so often
it will and a new number at the bottom of the page your readers and
Google will appreciate you for using this HTML mark up

Copy & past into page
<!--nextpage-->

Teck :)

Oops
and was sup post to add.

• Unknown's avatar

Also you need to add the HTML mark up while your in HTML mode with your editor
just add it to the bottom of the page and new content goes below the “next Page”
HTML mark up and when the next page starts to get long repeat process..

• Unknown's avatar

ok, so I add <!–nextpage–> whenever I add content to the same page. Is that correct? What about the other two options: <!–more–> OR <!–more continue Reading → –> . Please confirm!

• Unknown's avatar

those more options do work on static pages becasue it’s a permalink
the next page for example say you have for articles on that page if
you put next in between the for post you will end up with t 2 articles on
page 1 & 2 articles on page 2

Example

article 1

article 2

<–!nextpage–>

article 3

artitcle 4

article 1& 2 will be seen on page 1
while article 3 & 4 won’t been seen in till the page 2 link is clicked

Here is a screen cast to see it in action

It sounds as if what you’re doing is using that one page as a separate blog, with the most recent updates at the top.

Putting it on its own blog or on your preexisting one and using tags and categories is going to get you MUCH more readers than the way you’re doing it now, if that matters at all to you.

Thank you all! You have been a great help. I played around with some of your suggestions. In the end, it seems starting/running a separate blog would be the best way to go.
