Any problems with posting all content as a "page" and a "post"
-
I’ve never heard of it being done before, but it seems the only way to get the look I want without losing the apparent SEO perks of a “post”.
All the posts to my blog are very long, or are photo galleries, or videos, so I feel it’s not suited to posts. I’d rather have a page designated to videos, a page designated to photo galleries, a page designated to trip reports etc.
I want all my stuff to be able to be easily found from the front page, which is the reason I don’t like posts, as they seem to make people endure a massive scroll search to find anything. So I guess I prefer the “website look” as people here seem to call it, as it seems easier to navigate.
My question is, apart from the obvious extra work, and taking up lots of space, are there any downsides to this? Please feel free to let me know if my assessment is wrong or if I’ve missed something. I’m new-ish to this blogging thing so it’s quite likely I have!!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, more than I can count but also, the most obvious one being the SEO disadvantage. You might as well just quit blogging altogether. This is a better solution: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/posts-on-pages/
You could also just pick a theme that’s made for it.

Raincoaster I appreciate you taking the time to give your insight. You veterans certainly seem determined to get people to follow the post format, and it’s the only reason I hesitate, cos you should have far more blogger wisdom than me. The only reason I don’t just make everything a page was that I noticed you said to someone yesterday “DO NOT DO THAT”. And so, I figured I’d make all content BOTH.
If I quit blogging, then I will still need to find another site. This site seems fine for what I want. I’m not getting much traffic as it is with my posts, and tags and whatnot. Actually I think most views are from word of mouth, and this forum that down to my tags. Would you mind listing some of the other numerous problems with double posting my content?
On my blog I have tried to file posts under the always recommended categories system and still get each post to show up on the front page but it just looks wrong, cos each post has a (1) beside it.

Duplicating your own content is the worst thing you could possibly do. Nothing, nothing that I can think of would cause search engines to hate you more. They view duplicated content as spam, which it is, and will basically throw your site down a well.
Then there’s the fact pages have so little SEO. What’s the point of having posts which draw search engines if your front page is full of … page, not post? You’re hamstringing your blog, like having a racing team of horses and putting the slowest, laziest one at the front.
If you don’t like the way category pages display on your theme, find another theme. In most themes, you have all your posts on the front page, and there is no number beside them. You can configure the category widget to display post counts or not.

Your biggest problem is you need to use the “More Tag” to get rid of the horrid long front page of long Post after long Post
More Tag
