any way to add search bar and social media icons to Dyad's main navigation?
-
We are looking to switch themes from Linen to Dyad.
One of the requests from our team has been to add social media icons and a search bar to the top / main nav. I haven’t been able to find a way to do this in “Try & Customize.”
I’m wondering if I can add this via CSS or find a way to access the WP files to alter them?
Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I believe the links below should be able to assist you on both questions that you have.

Hopefully that helps!

Thanks for the response but this does not help. I want to know if there is a way to move the social media icons and search bar to the top navigation using the Dyad theme in WordPress.com.
Unfortunately it looks like I might need to migrate from .com to .org in order to accomplish this task.

Okay, now I understand. I thought you were just asking in general, not wanting it to be placement specific. It went over my head. ;)
I believe the only way to have the information at the top is to locate a theme that has the widgets at the top, rather than the side.
I’m going to tag the post with modlook since I’m not completely sure. That way Staff can assist and provide you with more information.

Hi there,
It should be possible to move those elements using CSS, but this is a fairly complex change and will require thorough testing so as to not break the mobile layout.
If you are comfortable with CSS, we have instructions on how to add custom CSS to your site’s theme here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/editing-css/Note that it’s not possible to edit the CSS, HTML or PHP files directly. You can only add custom CSS which will be loaded after the CSS files for your theme.
If you need help with finding the code needed for this change, please post in our CSS forums:

Thank you both. Are there best ways to go about this? I guess I could get some assistance on Stack Overflow.

The staff and volunteers in our CSS forum should be able to help you with this, so try there first.
If you post on Stackoverflow, make sure to make it clear that it is a WordPress.com site and that you are only able to add custom CSS, not edit existing CSS or HTML, and that you can’t use JavaScript, otherwise the users there might give you answers that’s not possible here.
