Any way to import images to WordPress.com from nextGen's photo gallery?

I want to move my blog from it’s current host (iPage) and in fact have already done so. The only problem I have is that I had started using NextGen to manage images in the WordPress.org installation I had on iPage. All the links to those images are now broken. Any way to import those into WordPress, com or will I have to re-upload those photos?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey Mark!

It looks like the images may have been brought over from the import. It looks like you have quite a few images in your media library here:

Can you point me to an image that is broken on your blog?

When I first imported the blog, all the images were there. I didn’t check on all 160+ posts, but I looked at a couple dozen stretching back to the first post. I then checked to see if the blog was displaying correctly on my phone, and most of the photos were not displaying. They weren’t displaying on my wife’s computer either. I cleared Chrome’s cache on my computer and almost none of the photos show up on it, now.
The only images that show in the blogs are images that I uploaded to the wordpress.org internal media manager. All the ones that I uploaded using nextgen disappeared after clearing the cache.
An example of on that is not linked and does not show up in the media manager is Yellow-billed Cuckoo (21) (1024×684). Another is Yellow-billed Cuckoo (18) (1024×684), however that one is in the media manager.

I was able to delete the broken link on Yellow-billed Cuckoo (18) (1024×684) and re-insert it into the blog, but that seems to be the only one that was actual there to redo.

    Hey Mark,

I just tried running the import into a test blog, and I didn’t have any luck either. The issue here is that when you run an import of an XML file, it doesn’t actually contain any images. It contains links to those images.

When you run the import, the WordPress.com importer sees those image links and proceeds to download the images from the source. However, in this case, the source is your old hosting service, which I don’t believe is up and running. Is that correct? Is there any way you could contact the host and see if we could get that up for a brief period while we re-run the import? That’s the only way to get the images to transfer over.

I’ve already mapped the domain name to wordpress.com. I can access the files via iPage and I might be able to download them, if that would help. Can they be added manually to the right directories at wordpress.com? BTW, there are about 2000 image files in different directories on the iPage site. I’ve posted a lot of bird pics in the last 3 years.
    Mark.

Evidently, since I’ve already remapped the domain name, I cannot access the files via ftp either.

    Hey Mark,

Do you potentially have a backup of your self-hosted site from when it was up and running? A site backup would be different than an XML export file that you generated when you moved your blog.
