Any way to make a gallery of Getty Images?

I’d like to do something similar to what rottentomatoes.com does for photo slideshows using Getty Images, but I’m not sure if that’s possible/how to do it. Is that an option for us?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

I don’t know of any WordPress.com themes that include an image slider feature with thumbnail navigation, similar to what I saw at rottentomatoes.com (example: Minions). You can’t add plugins to a WordPress.com site. However, for WordPress.org sites, there are plugins such as Meta Slider that can produce such sliders. Another plugin, Wunderslider Gallery, reportedly can do the same thing.

If the thumbnails below the slider are not crucial to you, then you might try WordPress.com slideshows, the appearance of which are customizable (to an exent) for those with custom CSS, or Slideshare slideshows, which is also supported by WordPress.com

The Oxygen theme contains a post slider with thumbnail navigation, but the images link to featured posts. To employ that for your idea, you’d need to make every image a post. Secondly, you’d have to figure out how to filter different images for each film, while using the same featured content tag for all images. Might be possible with CSS customization. Note that any page assigned to the Showcase Page Template on the Oxygen theme may display a featured content slider.

It will, of course, be up to you to find out if Getty images is okay with the plan.

I do not use Getty images. I do know that in order to create a gallery in a wordpress.COM blog like http://lylesmoviefiles.com/ the images must be uploaded into your Media Library.

    @ jklmd2002,
    Correction:

To employ that [Oxygen post slider] for your idea,…you’d need to make every image a post.

I meant that you’d have to make each image a featured image in a post. It’s probably not even worth considering this idea, other than using the Oxygen post slider as an example of what might be applied more generally, particularly if you decide to suggest your concept at the Ideas forum.
    @ timethief,
    Howdy!

…the images must be uploaded into your Media Library

As usual, you are correct. But I don’t think that I suggested otherwise, regarding uploading images to the media library.

    @musicdoc1
I am sorry that what I posted was not helpful. I have a hunch that Getty images cannot become featured images on wordpress.COM blogs, and have no time for testing to confirm that.

I hope you have a good weekend. We are absolutely exhausted and fearful. It rained a bit here this morning and we are praying for more ie. praying for a downpour as we see the forests burning in our province and in Saskatchewan on TV and we weep. What a horrific loss this is to our planet. We all need this protective canopy … sigh and it is disappearing. [/ôff-topic ]

    @ timethief,
No worries. I understand now that you’ve clarified.

Sorry to hear about the burning. I was unaware. Years long drought here in Central Coast region of California as well. Very little chance of much rain until late Autumn.

    Best wishes, doc

    @ jklmd2002,
    Clarification:

It’s probably not even worth considering this idea…

I mean my suggestion regarding the Oxygen theme post slider, not your idea, which is a good one.

I really didn’t think so, but I figured if there was a way you all would know. Thanks!

Hope everything works out up there timethief!

You’re welcome. I’ll let you know if I find something like that. There are new themes coming out all the time.

Did you look at the WordPress.com and Slideshare options?

  • Unknown's avatar

The way that the Getty images embed here on WordPress.com would not make them available for use as a slider/slideshow. https://en.support.wordpress.com/images/getty-images/

Here are the free themes that support a post slider https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/features/post-slider/?sort=free all of them however need to have the featured image uploaded to WordPress.com.

Since musicdoc1 brought up the WordPress.com and Slideshare slideshows, you could upload your images and create a slideshow in a sticky post that would sit at the top of your Posts/blog page. https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/post-visibility/#sticky-posts

    @ justjennifer,

Thanks. I was unaware of the Getty Images support page, and I presumed all along that jklmd2002 intended to upload selected Getty images, after purchasing or otherwise obtaining copyright use if necessary, to his media gallery.

…you could upload your images and create a slideshow in a sticky post that would sit at the top of your Posts/blog page.

Yes, but I presumed he’d want many different slideshows, as suggested by the example he provided of rottentomatoes.com, where there is a different slideshow for each film (e.g. Minions).
