Any way to redirect http://xxx.com to www.xxx.com??
-
This has been a real source of frustration so any help would be great!
When using wordpress.com (as opposed to wordpress.org with webspace hosted somewhere to upload plugins onto), is it possible, once you’ve upgraded to add a domain name, for example http://www.xxx.com, to prevent wordpress from always removing the “www.” part in the search bar?
I think websites look tons better as http://www.xxx.com rather than http://xxx.com and, while I know this can be altered if you have your own hosting somewhere with a plugin, I can’t figure out a way to do it if it’s hosted by wordpress.com with a domain name attached.
Hope that makes sense!
Any pointers would be enormously appreciated. I’m a fairly rookie user of wordpress at the moment.

WordPress will not map to a www subdomain.
See the faq on domain mapping.
And www is becoming passe on the web and fewer and fewer people are using it.

Chosing xxx for a fake link is a bad idea, since those are working…
Here’s the link to the FAQ: http://support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/

larawow – Sorry, I was just going for a random clearly-not-a-real-website-name and failed. Apologies! Anyhow, I did check that link out previously but still wasn’t sure.
There really is no way? *sigh* That’s very disappointing.

Please call me Lora, I had to take a different name because it was already taken.
Why do you want it so badly? -

Lora – thanks!
It’s mainly because the site isn’t for me, but for someone else. It’s a bit complicated! But essentially, the domain name has always been http://www.—.com so just for continuity it would be nice to keep the www. when we switch to wordpresss.

I see, well actually I’m quite new to WordPress myself as you might have already seen when you’ve visited my blog ( http://lorawow.wordpress.com ).
Thesacredpath is the main forum contributor here.PS: Your fake link turned out alright this time. ^^

thesacredpath – while that’s true, it’s still aesthetically irritating! But thanks.
Lora – thanks for responding though!
