Any way to show square featured images without cropping in 2015 theme?
-
I am a premium customer. I have lots of square instagram like images which I want to use as featured images because they show up nicely at full width in mobile browsers for the 2015 theme.
The size of the featured Images for 2015 theme is 825px wide by 510px high and it crops the square images and does not show them full. Can I add some custom css that it shows the square images without cropping as featured images?
Or if not possible, is there any custom css or image class by which I can show specific inline post images in 2015 full width in mobile browsers without the left and right margins?
Thanking you in advance.

Hi @nitaipreshthji,
Would you be able to provide an example of one of your square featured images on a post so that I can get a better idea of the issue you’re referring to? If you’d like, you can set the post as a draft or to private then tell me the title. I can take a look from there and advice you further.

Thank you. I have added a new post with the square featured image which is getting cut on the top at nitaigita.wordpress.com. Square images are so popular on the internet, facebook, instagram, etc. because they are the best size compromise for mobiles and desktops to see in big size. I really hope there is some custom css which I can apply to 2015 to make the full square image to appear in the featured image because I like the clean and fast interface.

Hi @nitaipreshthj,
As a heads up: Staff work from oldest to newest in this queue and, therefore, bumping a thread won’t have any positive impact.
There isn’t a way to prevent Twenty Fifteen from cropping images in the way that I can your image is cropped on that post.
Featured images will always be cropped at 825px by 510px. If you’d like a square image, then you could potentially use photo editing software to centre the image on a background of that size.
If your main concern is the way your site looks on mobile, then it’s worth noting that Twenty Fifteen is already optimised for this. Its design will adapt and images will be resized depending on the size of the screen your site is being viewed on.
In addition to the above, I would recommend using only images that are decorative or abstract as the featured image for your posts. Images that include a lot of text will be resized on mobile, making the text hard to read.
Let me know if that information is helpful or if you have any further questions.
