Any way to switch back to Classic Editor without paying
-
I’ve had a WordPress site since 2012 and was happy using the classic editor. I only update it once or twice every few years. I’ve tried to get to grips with the block editor but it’s just not working for me. Now it looks like I can’t switch back to the classic editor without upgrading my plan – it seems wild to suddenly withdraw the core functionality of your service and make it paid-for only. I know the block editor must work for someone, but for me it’s unintuitive and buggy, and if that’s the only option I’ll have to try somewhere else. I already pay for a business site, but this is a very basic one and the functionality I require is so simple that I can’t justify paying for a Creator account. I just want it to work the way it did for years and to be able to post images and copy. I saw someone posted something similar and WordPress were able to switch their preference to classic editor, so I’m wondering if this is possible for me, or if they’ve phased that option out.

You can always switch back to the Classic Block – https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/classic-block/.
The Classic Block isn’t a core functionality. The Classic Block has been replaced by our Block Editor as it is very limited and isn’t compatible with recent themes. Also the Classic Block won’t be supported forever.
Instead of sticking to an outdated and limited editor, it’s worth to learn using our new Block Editor – https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/new-to-wordpress-com-resources-to-get-started/

Thanks, but I’m talking about the classic editor, not the classic block. I’ve tried the block editor a lot so am not new to it, just find it excruciating to use, whereas the classic version was effortless and straight-forward.

I’m still using the old format. What happens if you add /wp-admin/edit.php to the end of your site URL?
