Anyone else having problems with the New Notifications Layout
-
I have the same problem. The Notifications icon lights up, I click on it, nothing appears. Now, I don’t know who responds to my comments on other blog posts, and on my own.
-
I think it is vital that we do not create the impression that the changes are acceptable by using them. I have bookmarked this:-
https://wordpress.com/notifications
When the notification icon lights up, I open it in a new tab.

Thanks for the link. That’s very helpful. I really wish/hope they’d just give us the option of using the old style that worked and was OK with computers and wasn’t tweaked out for mobile devices and Instagram type posting. Alas, everythign today is about clicks. It’s the new currency, and dumbing everything down is the way to go to the bank! If something seems stupid, it’s designed to appeal to stupidity, because that’s where the buck stops and refuels. Maybe it’s smart to appeal to stupidity. Dunno’. I’m old school. I still believe in being smart.

What happened to this older thread about the “new” Notifications? https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/changes-to-notifications?replies=18#post-2220807
My last comment there:
The notifications worked again for me but I had to re-add “wordpress.com” to allow cookies for it to work.
The “new” notifications does not show if we replied to a particular comment.
There is no link to get to “View Archive” at https://wordpress.com/notifications/. I guess one just has to have that link bookmarked like I have done.
Notice that no support person has replied to our comments since Dec. 17, 2014.
Earlier comments mentioned that there is no time stamp on either the “new” notifications or the archive page. That was a useful feature that has been eliminated.
I’ll add that I do not like to have to click twice to make the blue color (unread) go away. Just a waste of my time. Why not have a “mark all read” button?
-
Incidentally, there’s absolutely no reason for notifications we’ve seen and dealt with to continue to appear on the list.
Just to be clear, you would like notifications to disappear once you view them? I don’t believe we’ll be putting this feature in place as many users like to revisit past notifications.
PLUS I’m having an issue with link-up widgets not working all of a sudden.
Can you report this in a new thread if you haven’t already?
can’t we just go back to the (highly functional) previous system?
You can use the previous notification system at http://wordpress.com/notifications
Sometimes you can’t scroll past one screen worth of notifications. Sometimes you can. And it’s not an issue of needing to have the cache cleaned out. There’s really no rhyme or reason to it.
That’s really odd – I haven’t been able to reproduce this at all. Infinite scroll seems to work correctly on my side in all browsers. I’ll continue testing as other users have definitely report this!
the difference in color is too subtle to see on PC.
Thanks for reporting; we’re working on improving the color contrast.
I wrote a post and a comment arruved about 5 minutes later. Notifications said the comment was 3 hours old. How can the response be older than the post?!?
What wast the title of that post so I can take a look?
There is no immediately view of any time stamp and none at all for Likes and new Follows.
It doesn’t look like timestamps were available on Likes or Follows in the previous version of notifications. I don’t know if we’ll add timestamps for Likes/Follows, but I’ll raise the question regarding comments!
Any indication as to whether I have approved and/or replied to a comment.
Yep – we’re looking to improve on this.
Why not permit those, who prefer the old version, a respective option?
You can continue to use the old version at http://wordpress.com/notifications
There is no endless scroll to the notifications, at least not on the various screens in the most recent FireFox browser.
Can you try another browser just to see if that makes a difference?
I am using Chrome but it is the same in IE. I see other people are reporting the same issue so it clearly isn’t just me.
Definitely – I’m still unable to reproduce, but I’m trying to find the common denominator.

My problem is the same as everyone’s. The icon lights up, but when I click on it… Nothing is there.
It looks like notifications are appearing in the notifications menu for me. Is the window still blank for you?
Earlier comments mentioned that there is no time stamp on either the “new” notifications or the archive page. That was a useful feature that has been eliminated.
Yep! We’re working on this.
The “new” notifications does not show if we replied to a particular comment.
Working on this as well!

Thank you for reading and responding to some of our concerns, jeremeylduvall.
I didn’t see a response to this question, “Why not have a “mark all read” button?”
Right now I have to click twice, once to see the notification, and another to go back to the list just to mark it as “read”.
-
@jeremeylduvall Let me clarify. I would like the dropdown notifications list to show only new notifications. We can always refer to old ones on the comprehensive notifications page if we need to.

Seconded.

I want a dislike button….

From the link that timethief provided:
“Please let us know how you like the new notifications or how you think they could be better.”
And yet the comments on this article are closed. Unbelievable.
@jeremeylduvall, since you seem to be the only way to communicate with WP about this subject, please pass along to the WP bloggers that it makes WP look more than foolish to ask for feedback on an issue and then close the comments on the post with the request.
-
They did the same thing with the new brain dead stats announcement, left the ability of the suck-ups to click on “like” – no “dislike” button – I wonder why?

No kidding it just gets worse and worse. I am with galois who said

Does it even matter that the comments are not open? My comment and many others were not “approved” until days after leaving our comments on the “new” Stats post because by then no one would see them.
-
It looks as if they are not so much trying to fool us with the hype (we know better), but trying to fool the shareholders and executive staff.

It was three days ago in this thread when jeremeylduvall, the Happiness Engineer, said:
We’re definitely open to feedback, and we’re committed to improving the new notifications so that they’re even better than the old version. If you have any bugs to report or things that you would like to see improved upon, I’d love for you to share!
So that he doesn’t need to scroll back, I’ll repeat what I said two days ago:
Okay, let’s see if you guys are serious. First, how about a link like there used to be when we click on the Notifications button that leads us to https://wordpress.com/notifications. There was no reason to remove it, and it’s absurd to require us to keep a separate browser tab open for that information.
Second, as others have suggested, give us two versions of the WP software: (1) the traditional, or “classic” version, which you know by now that many bloggers prefer; and (2) the new, Beep Beep Boop version, with the new stats and notifications features. In other words, stop making that decision for us. Let us decide. We know what we prefer.
Third, don’t make our choice of one version or the other dependent on cookies. You can remember our choices for us by making them part of our personal settings.
Fourth, there’s no need to keep reminding us to switch to what you call the “improved posting experience.” If we’ve decided not to use Beep Beep Boop, we don’t need to see that every time we make a new post or edit an old one.
I’m still waiting to see if the WP folks are serious.

Did you notice that there’s no way to comment on the “hip hip hooray, notifications are awesome” propaganda page?
