If anybody would like to work around the problem, try this:-

About two thirds down the page.

@jeremylduvall – I am not referring to that. I am referring to the old /wp-admin page. Every link that previously would have taken us to that page is now taking us to the “new and improved” streamlined experience from the “new” posting option which isn’t faster to the new stats, which allegedly WordPress is aware of.
It’s all forcing me to the “streamlined” version and I have to physically type my geoffwhaley.com/wp-admin or click on the ONE link to the top left on all of the new pages. Why would the default be removed? I spent twenty minutes trying to find my way to the old store format to verify that my purchases were still there and I hadn’t been lumped into one of the “new plans.”
As for the treating us like morons comment, that was out of hand and I apologize. However, reading through this post and many others like it, it is clearly seasoned laptop/desktop users who are in upheaval about all of the changes and we’re all being treated as if we’re novice tablet/mobile users by any staff member who deigns to respond.

Thanks jeremeylduvall.
When I just tried this, the comment went into the trash folder of my site. For you, the comment is still being deleted completely. Is that correct?
Yes, the comment was deleted completely. It never went to the Trash folder.
In this case it wasn’t a problem as it was going to be deleted anyway, but sometimes I change my mind so I need the comments to go to the Trash folder first, then I can choose to delete completely at a later time.
Today, I tried it again and it worked fine. The comment went to the Trash folder.
On another issue today, the orange dot doesn’t appear on the bell icon on the general notifications page. The orange notifications icon works fine on the classic admin. pages.

An update to today’s comment that was “trashed” then restored from the Trash folder: the notifications page and the notifications through the icon button do not show this comment at all.

I also do not like the extra clicks required on the new notifications, I probably agree with some of the other complaints and suggestions already given here as well, and I think that the fake-infinite scrolling should be turned into true infinite scrolling if possible where you can scroll until the end of time if you want to like you can do with infinite scrolling on our blogs.

These are a few comments I received talking about the new notifier.
“Whoa! I thought it was ME (re: the new notification system!!!) I can’t see when I’ve replied to someone on my computer, my phone, my notebook, my carrier pigeon…..never seems to “mark that I’ve REPLIED”. Who the hell knows if it’s ME or them? (I say it’s THEM!!!!)”
“I don’t like the new notifications either; thanks for the link, I bookmarked it on my toolbar and have instant access to the old notifications which are way better! Really appreciate that tip.”
“As for the notifications page, I find it difficult to figure out which comment is on which post… ! “
“I have to review your lesson in notifications. I’m all amok over here!”
“Thank you for the laugh and the advice on accessing the old notifier – I don’t like the new one either!”
” I think many bloggers agree with you about the new notifier. It’s awful. Like you, I want the arrows back to remind me who I’ve replied to!”
“Thanks for this link Ralph, I am not happy with the new one either but couldn’t find the archive anymore. I bookmarked it too now. Thanks so much.”
This is the link to the old notifications page.

Could you let me know what browser you’re using? I’m experiencing some weirdness in Safari as well.
Also, the same thing in Chrome v40 on my smartphone.
:)

Yes. Many of the new changes annoy me and when I have complained I basically am getting a very etsy-type runaround. “You can still do it using these ten clicks . . . ”

Understood. Thanks for clarifying. We are changing some of the normal links from the wp-admin interface to the newer interface.
It’s all forcing me to the “streamlined” version and I have to physically type my geoffwhaley.com/wp-admin or click on the ONE link to the top left on all of the new pages. As we change some of the links to point to the newer version, the wp-admin URL is going to be the best bet for using the classical interface. You can check out your new Store purchases from this link for example:
https://geoffwhaley.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php
I will say that we’re trying hard to improve the new interface so that it matches and even exceeds your expectations. It certainly might take some time to get used to since it’s new. If you see any bugs with the new interface, please open a new thread (this one is getting tough to follow for non-notification related bugs).

Great! Thanks for following up with that. If you experience this again, please let us know in a new thread.

Hmm it appears to be working on my side in Chrome and Firefox. Could you let me know what browser version you’re using? I apologize if you’ve mentioned this before.

Interesting! I wonder if there’s a way to make those pop back into your notifications. I’ll report this and keep you posted with what I find out.
Also, the same thing in Chrome v40 on my smartphone.
Thanks! I’ll do a bit more work to recreate and then file a bug report.

to Jeremy, So sorry, it was my fault I didn’t realize that when I went to the general page for notifications the orange dot disappears. I thought one had to click the bell icon for the orange dot to disappear.
Another possible issue is that I cannot “approve”, mark as “trash”, etc. on reblogs. I have it set to moderate all reblogs, so they all go into the Pending folder. I can moderate all the other comments, including pingbacks from both the general notifications page and the drop-down through the icon for notifications.
-
Oops, I take that last sentence back. On the general notifications page, https://wordpress.com/notifications/, I also cannot moderate the reblog.

Ah – thanks for clarifying. If you visit a notification on the classic notifications page (/notifications), it will remove the orange dot from the bell icon on WordPress.com.

I don’t believe reblogs are “moderatable,” meaning if your post has reblogs enabled, you will receive a notification of a reblog. You won’t be able to moderate it after the fact since reblogs are enabled. The only control would be to turn off reblogs in the first place. Does that make sense?
-
Thanks, Jeremy.
I will continue to moderate the reblogs through the all Comments page on the classic admin. page.
It’s too bad that we cannot moderate through the notification page or icon button. More people would allow reblogs if they thought they could control them better.
-
-
But maybe we should be able to moderate them. I do by adding “reblogged” to the “Comment Moderation” list.
-
We should also be able to moderate our followers. I know we can report followers as spam (although my blog has a number of followers that I have reported for very obvious reasons, and their blogs are still active and still following mine). Being able to de-follow WP blogs that are clearly just trying to up their number of hits would do a great deal to discourage spam bloggers on WP.
-
We should also be able to moderate our followers.
Understood. Thanks for bringing this up! We’re definitely looking into it in the future.

@jeremeylduvall
Hmmm. Not working here, even after clearing the cache. I checked in FF and Chrome and in Firefox I can in fact shrink the box so small I can’t see any text at all (that related bug you mention?), but I can’t make it higher beyond four lines. No difference between blue and black admin bars.I’ll check again a little later, in case it’s a case of the change not being instantly applied to all accounts (don’t know how the system works in that regard). I’ll let you know if I see any change then.
