anyone else notice an increase in spam user registrations?

Has anyone else noticed an increase in spam user registrations on your WordPress blogs?
At first I thought it was just me and then I spoke with another WordPress user who was complaining about the same problem. Is there a new exploit that we should be aware of for folks who host their own WordPress Blogs (version 2.3.3)? Aksimet does a great job at stopping spam comments, so it really is just a matter of cleaning them out of my user database.

That being said, for cripes sake update. The current version is 2.9.,1 and yes there are security vulnerabilities in old versions. > http://wordpress.org/support
