Anyone had any experiences with Switching Themes after blogging for 4 years

I’m currently considering choosing a new theme for my page so that it’s cleaner and more attractive to affiliates/marketing folks.
I get that there are tons of “how tos” but has anyone actually tried to do this?
What are the bottom line things to do, what not to do, etc.
Like I know somehow I have to create a backup of my whole blog just in case…
How do the pages translate over? or will I be stuck in HTML hell trying to sort it all out. Or should I keep my theme and learn how to organize it more?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi Sarah,

Switching themes after sticking to the same for a few years can definitely take a bit of work but is worth it in the long run.

While all of the content from your posts and pages will remain the same, you will lose theme specific settings such as widgets.

Before you make the switch, I recommend setting up a private test blog and having a bit of an experiment. We have steps to doing that here:

We’re here if questions come up, too!

Thank you @siobhyb! I’ll try it and see how it goes.
    Best,
    Sarah
