Anyone up for a project? Paid of course.

I’m completely new to WordPress and found myself here when I saw a competitor of ours had created a very simple few pages as well as a blog using the WordPress platform.
I’d like to hire someone to help me create a simple main page (with some simple text about our company and 2 links to the manufacturers we represent) and a blog page that looks professional.
It would require enough knowledge and experience to point a domain we own at this page unless you recommend we just redirect and mask (it’s registered with GoDaddy and we have an e-mail catchall account that forwards inbound mail to our ISP).
We’re expecting our logo to be finished the middle of next week and it would be good to get it all coordinated by then if possible.
I’m easy to work with and can pay you through PayPal if that’s convenient enough for you.
I’ll select someone based on what their blog looks like or other Web examples you can point to as examples of your work. Please let me know the best way to contact you and we can get started as soon as you’re ready.
I look forward to your reply.

You may want to host your own WordPress installation since I don’t think commercial sites are allowed here. Check with support before you go to the trouble to find out that wordpress.com (which is where you are) is not for you. Also take a look here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=3700&replies=1

Hi Wayne: Please contact me at krclaypool at yahoo dot com. I would love to help you. Once you contact me via email, we can then arrange for a convenient time to talk in more depth of what you are looking for.
I look forward to hearing from you! :)

Thanks for the heads-up, Vivian. There’s nothing in all of the info I’ve read across WordPress.com that says they prohibit commercial sites. In fact, there are plenty of users who do use the platform for commerical enterprises – some rather large, which was a bit surprising.
The link you provided also implies that hosting the software on your own (from WordPress.org) isn’t really recommended because “mismanagement” of your hosting can result in losing your entire blog.

No, overcommercialization of your blog here can result in losing the entire thing. One example of the way commercialization is frowned upon here is the fact that threads like this tend to get closed VERY quickly by staff.
While business blogs are allowed and encouraged here, if you want a site as a CMS or catalogue site, you will definitely need an independent, WP.org install.

delvalgps – you may have seen some of the VIP blogs hosted here, which cost hundreds of dollars per month (if you are eligible). Don’t confuse those with the free blogs.
Like I said – check with support before you invest any time or money into creating a blog that ends up getting shut down. Those of us who have been here a while have seen that happen more times than we can count.

delvalgps – raincoaster and vivianpaige has cited excellent advice. Continue to do your research and seek the advice from support prior to proceeding with blogging yourself and/or hiring someone to do the blogs for you. I, too, have seen blogs end up getting shut down. Whether or not the blogger had deliberate intentions of submitting commercialized blogs, or it was a matter of not being educated to the facts…policies are still policies.
Ask a lot of questions and then research the answers that you are given. There are a lot of experts on the forum and some that simply think they are.
Best of luck to you!

Thank you for the additional information, raincoaster and krclaypool. I am interested in understanding more about what “over-commercialization” might be. As I said, I’m looking to have a basic page that tells about us as a landing page and then link off of it for our blog.
We’re not talking about an ecommerce effort whatsoever, so I’m interested in learning more. You’ve suggested asking “Support” but I see so many postings about not being able to get “Support” to acknowledge requests.
Can anyone point to other blogs that are commercial in nature? This one is: http://www.fleetgpsreport.com/index.html — It’s how I arrived at WordPress. If you go to: http://fleetgpsreport.com/gps/ and click on the “About” link, you’ll see that they didn’t complete that page and it’s placeholder text from WordPress.com.

Hello delvalgps ,
The blog your referring to is a wordpress.org website
I notice that there is no wordpress.com at the footer
of the site like we have here….Here is a link that will explain the difference between
wp.com & wp.org -
Wayne – that’s exactly what I thought when I first posted – that perhaps you had seen a “Powered by WordPress” site which was hosted elsewhere and not a wordpress.com-hosted site.
Support is closed on the weekends but they are responsive during the hours of their operation. I’ve never not had support answer me.

Misspelled the strong tag (I hate that the forum lacks either a preview button or an edit button!)
