API code – problems with user hosted WordPress Blog
-
Hi there
I’ve got a problem that I must be missing something on. I need to get a proper API code setup on my user hosted blog. The wordpress info told me that I’ve got to sign up at wordpress to get an API code because there wont necessarily be one attached to my wordpress blog.
So I signed up but I cannot figure out for the life of me how to link my blog and my new “wordpress accunt. I plugged in the API code into my blog site and it seems to work… but then when I go to link my blog to youtube, etc… it doesnt work… hopefully somebody can help me as my programmer is MIA for the next 2 weeks :|

Hi Vivian
Thanks for the reply :)
Actually, I have read information similar here: http://faq.wordpress.com/2005/10/19/api-key/
The main problem is my wordpress blog isnt “xsite.wordpress.org”… it’s one I have hosted on another server. I have no idea how I can have a wordpress blog but not have a wordpress account… it makes no sense to me… I have a username and password that I use to log into the backend wordpress admin to my site but for some reason there is no API code associated with it… I’m quite confused…

To get an API key, you have to have an account here at wordpress.COM. The username and password for your blog are just that, for your blog, and your self-hosted blog is not in anyway connected to wordpress.COM.
Go to http://wordpress.COM/ and click on the link to create an account/blog here. You do not have to have a blog here, but you do have to have an account to get the API key.

I guess I just don’t see the sense in having to create another account to get this API code… and I did do that, and I plunked the API code I got into my blog account but the API code itself does not seem to work when I go to try to link my blog to my youtube account etc……

There is some specific information on API keys in the support forums for .ORG, including the information for YouTube. Since this is not the wordpress.ORG support forum, you need to head over there. And please read the sticky at the top regarding the difference between .COM and .ORG

I have a blog hosted on my server. I can not remember i was given an API number. Is it possible to initialize your blog without one? Regardless I can’t find it and I would like to install Stats. where can I recover it? It does not show up in my profile.
I set up an account on wordpress.com but since that is a different account the API number will not work with my self hosted blog.
Any advice???
