What is "An Unexpected HTTP Error occurred during the API request?"

I installed wordpress through MAMP. I have a username as admin and a password; all was working fine until i tried to acces the themes under the appearance tab.
i get this error:An Unexpected HTTP Error occurred during the API request
I need help resolving this errorI went ahead and registered normaly through the wordpress.com site using bridalgraphics (the name of my blog) . Eventually, How can i merge the locally hosted site into the blog url?

Unfortunately, we really can’t help with self-hosted WordPress.org blogs, though my guess would be that your local server is not actually establishing public connections.
clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.
WordPress.org has complete support and documentation sites for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress via their Codex and Support Forums.
As for moving over here, you can transfer your contents to your WordPress.com blog following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-from-wordpress-org

got it! how flexible is wordpress.com in terms of creating a customized page? Im really not into the themes im seeing and would like to build my own site…

It’s pretty flexible. You can change most visual aspects of your blog with a Custom Design upgrade, but you can’t modify the theme template files.

i see, that precisely what i intended to do using dreamweaver….can i create a website in dremweaver and then integrate it somehow with wordpress.com to take advantage of the blog? …btw Thanks for the prompt help!

Unfortunately, no. WordPress.com is a blogging service, not a traditional hosting provider, so you can’t upload standard website pages.
