API Key
-
I just want an API key for my site. Do I really have to sign up for a paid subscription to akismet just to get that API key?
I don’t have a site linked to this WordPress.com account
-
Huh? Why does it say I don’t have a site linked? Oh well, I do have a site, it just must not have linked up for some reason.

Hi there,
Please contact Akismet support directly for help with issues related to using that plugin on a self-hosted WordPress website:
The forum you’ve posted to here only provides support for free websites hosted on WordPress.com.
-
Well, my question really is, is it possible to get an API key WITHOUT dealing with Akismet.
-
Oh, we thought you meant an Akismet API key. Are you developing an app that uses our WordPress.com API?
If so, these tips may help:

We want to connect our website to our social media distributor poster called HelloWoofy, so that we can copy these posts to the news feed on our website. It is asking for a WordPress API key.
-
Hi there,
I am pretty sure they are referring to REST API:
https://developer.wordpress.org/rest-api/
However, I’d recommend contacting Hellowoofy and ask for the specific steps they require in order to generate the API key you’re needing to integrate. HelloWoofy is a 3rd party product and they’ll know how to best instruct you with this.
Thanks,

They said that there’s an API key on the Admin Panel that I have to copy? Am I missing something?

Is this for https://afterhoursrecords.co/?
If so, it looks like your site is using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but is hosted with another webhost.
We’re only able to provide support for WordPress websites that are hosted by us here at WordPress.com. For help with a WordPress site hosted elsewhere you’ll need to ask over at the WordPress.org forums:
https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and the open-source WordPress software you can read this article:
-
No, it’s for https://www.afterhoursrecords.org. That should be hosted on WordPress.
Hellowoofy responded again and helped me find the API key, so I guess this thread can be closed.

Just for the record it seems you were posting into the wrong support forum all along as that site is over at Bluehost.
Domain:afterhoursrecords.org
Registrar:FastDomain Inc.
Name Servers:
ns1.bluehost.com
ns2.bluehost.com -
Well yes the domain is, but I thought since the website was generated with wordpress, this was the correct place to reach out…
I’m still new to all of this, so I guess I just don’t know what I’m doing. Please close this thread, moderators.

Just to avoid confusion in the future, there are three different “WordPress” “at play here:
1. The free, open-source WordPress software which powers your website.
2. WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
3. WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software and with whom you’re contacting now.Hello Woofy support will be your best resource to help set this up. If you still have trouble, please reach out to the WordPress community for guidance:
https://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting
Hope that helps! WWe’llclose this thread as requested.
