API key problem with plugin

    Hi,

    heres the deal

i originally downloaded and installed wordpress onto my webspace, and created a custom theme. (http://server1.at-dns.com/~tylerhol/blog/wordpress/). Now i am trying to install a Stats plug-in, but it is asking for my API key. The problem (i think) is that my currently hosted wordpress blog is not associated with wordpress.com. So my question is, how do i connect my blog with wordpress.com so i can get an API key, and also a “blogname.wordpress.com” URL.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! this is kind of confusing!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You’re right that your self-hosted blog is not connected to wordpress.com, but you’ve already got a wordpress.com account that you signed in with here, so you’re halfway there. Here’s how to find that little devil:

thank you for your reply ella

Yes, but if i use the API key for this account to activate the stats plugin for my self-hosted blog, then wont the stats be displayed for my ‘wordpress.com’ account blog instead of my self-hosted blog?

Right now i basically have 2 blogs, one self-hosted (http://server1.at-dns.com/~tylerhol/blog/wordpress/)

and the other is one that i made for this account, in attempt to tie the two together into one. I exported my XML file from my self-hosted and imported it into my new one, but all that did was get my xml info.

sorry this is so confusing, im trying my best to explain it..

oops, i think i jumped the gun. I didn’t fully read the link you sent me, my apologies!

i think you have resolved my problem, i’m just going to hope that the stats being displayed are for my self-hosted blog.

    thanks ella

I have a self-hosted blog too and use the WP-Stats plug in (I assume that’s the one you’ve got) and it’s not tied to my .com blogs stats-wise. You don’t need to duplicate content. Give it a try. I know it’s especially confusing because that particular plugin is supported here, but everything else (afaik) is at wordpress.org/support.
