API URL
-
hi gang…..i have a word press blog hosted by hostmonster.com. i would like to link to videos from youtube.com (and perhaps other sites).
i got my API key from wordpress…but am having trouble determining what my API URL is (this, in addition to the API key is required by youtube for posting videos on my blog).
the url for my blog is http://www.flatusyahu.com.
can anyone help?

You need to be asking at WordPress.org, as this support forum is for WordPress.com hosted blogs. I don’t think we can help you here.
Except that I can say that you shouldn’t need the API key to post videos in a WP blog at all. You just copy the embed code, make sure “use visual editor” is unticked in your Options, and paste the embed code into your Code editor. You can reset the visual editor after you make the post if you like.

Actually there’s no reason not to give him an answer to his question. The reason he wants to do it is so that he won’t have to copy and paste the links to embed each video. Youtube and other sites have a feature where you go into your personal profile and enter your blog’s information, then the “Post video” option is activated and it’s a simple one click operation after that if you want to embed videos to your blog.

Got to disagree there: there’s a very good reason not to answer his question here, and that’s simply that I have no idea, nor would most WP.com bloggers know the answer. We’re all volunteers in the forum, who don’t deal with root directories.

Hi Robonot, This is the WordPress.com forums and here we shouldn’t answer to non-wordpress.com bloggers, that’s in the forums rules.
Why? Because the volunters couldn’t be so much experienced with custom wordpress.org installations, we preferred leave that job to the wordpress.org people. -
Actually the real answer would be our answer for the blogs here at wp.com wouldn’t apply to the answer that the poster was looking for. Since embed codes are stripped from all user input due to security concerns, the blogging tool from youtube shouldn’t be working for the blogs hosted here at wp.com. (And if it is, it needs to be reported as it would be a security risk.)
In fact I removed your response as it is incorrect for those blogs hosted here and would just lead to more confusion among the users.
Please remember that the software is different from regular wordpress. We direct those who are using regular wordpress to the correct website.
And, yes, I have answered regular wordpress questions here before. Either I put a big disclaimer on it (which always gets ignored be someone) or direct them to where the answer is located. I do that if I feel that sending someone over to wp.org would do more harm then good. (Please rememebr that these folks have already missed a big sticky post labeled “Please Read Me First Before Posting.”)

It doesn’t work here. I tried it ages ago. And answering Wp.org questions here only trains them to come back here for their answers; this causes a lot of confusion and timewasting.

Considering that the confused one has done it before:
