Apostrophe 2: Text on a static homepage

I like the way this magazine theme organizes post by category and creates a link to each blog entry using an Image from each blog post. However I’d like to add some text of a video link on the home page or even on each page created for a category. Is there a way to add text to the static home page? Is there a way to add text to any page with this theme. What about embedding video on the page featuring blogs from a particular category.
