Apostrophe 2 theme – How come there are blank spaces between posts in category pages?
-
Hello,
Hope I’m articulating myself well. Under my ‘Resources’ tab, I’ve created a category page where posts are published to it. However, I noticed after my last (most recent) post on ‘Patient Engagement/Patient Safety’, my posts on that page no longer align (you’ll see 2 blank spaces next to my ‘Resources Related to Professional Interactions’ post.
When I’m signed in and go to preview my page, it’s all aligned (4×3) but when viewing publicly, it’s wonky. Here is my page:

Hi there,
I suspect this might have to do with your settings – currently you have your site set to load ten posts at a time. See if it helps if you change that number to a multiple of three. You’ll find that option at My Site ->Settings ->Writing

Hi kokkieh,
I tried your suggestion with 15 and then 21 for all fields but still am still seeing the misalignment.
Anything else I can try?
Thank you,

See if disabling infinite scroll perhaps helps. That option is also under Writing settings, under the Theme Enhancements heading.

Excellent. I’ll just explain what I think is happening here:
On non-grid themes, where posts are listed under on another, the initial number of posts will load when you open the site, and then the next seven will load each time you get to the bottom, so the infinite scroll code only runs when you reach the bottom of the page.
But on your theme that code runs almost immediately, because your posts load next to each other so the bottom-most post loads only about halfway down the screen, immediately triggering infinite scroll to load the next seven posts. So if the infinite scroll code runs before the original first load has fully completed, that causes the layout to become confused.
That’s also why it happens some times and not others – it depends on how quickly different things are loading on the page, and also factors like whether some of the code might already be cached in your browser.
So it’s not really a bug, as such, but for best results on this particular theme, and so you can make sure new posts always load in a full row of three as you scroll down, it would be better to keep that feature switched off.
