Apostrophe in caption becoming a superscript L
-
Does anyone know why an apostrophe typed directly (not copied from an editor) into a photo caption would become a superscript uppercase L. This had never happened before but just started. I looked at the HTML and its the same thing. Could my keyboard be responsible? I found a post that described a similar problem and suggested going into the HTML view and replacing the L with & #39 ; . I looked at an older correct post and sure enough where the apostrophe is, its substituted & #39 ;. But if I modify the HTML and update, the problem returns and the HTML reverts to a little box.
thanks

I further understand what is going on. The problem is occurring when an apostrophe is used in a caption in the media library. If I use Firefox to edit the media caption, delete the photo, re-insert the photo with the edited caption, it looks ok but when I update and it processes the caption string, it replaces the apostrophe with a little box with 00 on top and 03 below. If I use Explorer, it becomes the superscript L. Apostrophe is a reserved character and is converted into the escape sequence & #39 ; correctly until I do the update and it pulls the photo in from the library again and it fails. It seems the apostrophe is failing to be recognized and replaced with the escape sequence upon update and Firefox and Explorer interpret whatever it differently. Is this a new bug as it just appeared? Any idea how long till you fix it? It looks rather funny.
thanks

It’s a very new bug, but we should have it fixed shortly. The trick is tracking it down. It seems to only affect a few users, and it appears to work correctly when the post is initially published, but breaks when the post or caption is edited.

The apostrophe problem should be fixed now. Can you reply back if it’s still not working for you?

I work in Safari and the apostrophe would go missing randomly in the photo captions when I update my blog. It’s not replaced with anything, it’s just gone. It happens on pages that I don’t even touch. This has been happening the last couple of weeks. I just checked today and they are all there. Looks like the bug’s been fixed.
