Apostrophe theme Featured Content

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!
I’m using the theme Apostrophe to build my website.
I would like to include some featured content.

But I can’t do it in any of the two ways they describe on the website.

Featured Content in Apostrophe is a bit unique. To mark posts as featured, you’ll first have to configure the Featured Content module from Appearance → Customize → Featured Content. From there, you’ll be able to select a tag for all your featured posts. Any posts tagged with this tag will be shown in a more prominent way.

    – If I go to Appearance→ Customize…then I don’t see the Featured Content option.

You can also tag your posts using Apostrophe‘s special front-end tagger. By default, the tagger is disabled, but you can enable it by checking the “Enable front end feature-starring for easier tagging of Featured Content” checkbox under Appearance → Customize → Theme. Then, visit your blog page, hover over the post you’d like to feature, and click on the star icon. You’ll notice that this post then increases in prominence.

I don’t have the checkbox “Enable front end feature-starring for easier tagging of Featured Content”

    How do I solve this?

    Thanks!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hey beatrizbarralny,

    It sounds like you’re accessing Appearance→Customize through the wp-admin panel – beatrizbarralny.wordpress.com/wp-admin

I tried to re-create this, and as you mentioned, couldn’t find the Featured Content option.

I did however manage to find it while using the Customize screen on the homepage, along with “Enable front end feature-starring for easier tagging of Featured Content”. Please see:

To re-iterate, accessing beatrizbarralny.wordpress.com as opposed to beatrizbarralny.wordpress.com/wp-admin should solve the issue.

Please let me know if this works :)

    Hey fn2187matt,

Thanks a lot for your help!

    I have a wordpress.org site. It’s beatrizbarral.org.

Can I still access as you mentioned? I don’t know how to do it. I’m always logged in as admin.

I’m very new at this and have a lot to learn!

    Thanks!

The above fix should work for beatrizbarralny.wordpress.com. If you’re also using Apostrophe on WordPress.org (a self-hosted blog) then according to this thread… https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/apostrophe-theme-featured-content-not-available?replies=4#post-2412984

To use Featured Content you need to activate the Jetpack plugin. You can then add your featured tag in the Customizer’s Theme Options section.

WordPress.org and WordPress.com are different entities. This article explains the differences: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If anyone else needs help with the self-hosted version of Apostrophe running on your own hosting, please post in the WordPress.org support forums, since these ones are for folks hosted on WordPress.com.

    I hope this helps :)

@fn2187matt – Hi there. I hope you don’t mind if I share a tip. If the OP has provided a link to their site, it is always worthwhile to click on it before replying. In this case you’d see that the OP’s WordPressdotcom site is empty of content and using the Espied theme. This is usually an indication that they really need help with a different site, and in about 30% of the cases, it’s actually a standalone WP site. Welcome to volunteering in the WordPressdotcom support forums. :)

@fn2187matt it worked! Thank you so much for your help.

I will use WordPress.org forums next time.

    Thanks a again!

  • beatrizbarralny – Glad you’re all set! As with all themes in the WordPress.org repository, Apostrophe has its very own forum where you can post directly if you need further help:

    https://wordpress.org/support/theme/apostrophe

You’ll need a free WordPress.org account to post – if you don’t already have one, you can register here:
