Apostrophe theme: threaded comments
-
The comments don’t appear to be threaded, but just appear to be new comments added one after the other. Any chance of fixing this so that a reply to a comment is actually attached to that comment? Thanks
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Have you checked the comments settings?
Go to Dashboard > Settings > Discussion > Other comment settings
is Enable threaded (nested) comments enabled? -
-
So there’s the possibility of the theme not supporting threaded comments.
You can add the tag modlook to the right sidebar of this post and notify the WordPress.com support staff. They’re the only ones with an official answer. -
Thanks for the tip. Have done this and look forward to their support staff looking into this.

Hi technicalcopywriter – I just tested comments on a test site running Apostrophe and they seem to be threading/nesting as expected. Each comment up to the number of levels I’ve specified has a “reply” link, and subsequent comments are indented.
I’m seeing the correct reply link and intents on your site as well – for example, on this thread:
http://discoveringbelgium.com/2015/06/09/meldert-a-mystery-bird-and-a-family-of-pirates/Could you let me know in what way comment threading doesn’t appear to be working? Thanks.

Hi Kathryn, thanks for looking into this and testing it. Now I have received more comments, e.g. on the post you looked at, I do see that there is a slight indentation on reply levels. That is the problem, as far as I see it. The indent is minimal, and with a cursory glance it is not visible. Other themes have a much more pronounced indent which makes it very easy to spot and differentiate between the original comment, the subsequent level 2 & 3 replies, and then the next original comment. Would there be any possibility to change (enlarge) the indent, or is there a possibility I can shade level 2s a different colour?
Other than this very minor issue, I think that Apostrophe is a really lovely magazine theme which I am delighted with.

This would be possible by adding some custom CSS.
Currently, there is 20px of left margin on every “child” comment. You can increase that to 30 (or whatever you like) by adding something like this to your custom CSS, which I’d suggest putting in a media query so it only affects larger screens that have the space for it:
@media (min-width: 1024px) { .comment-list ul.children { margin-left: 30px; } }Other than this very minor issue, I think that Apostrophe is a really lovely magazine theme which I am delighted with.
Glad to hear it!

Thanks Kathryn, but this is going to be a big challenge for me as I have never done anything like this before and don’t know where to start. Maybe I will look into it. Unless you can start me off, if you have a moment? Thanks. Denzil

Hi Denzil, if you open up your Customizer’s CSS panel, just copy-paste the code I gave you in there, then click the Save button. :) Nothing more to do.

That’s super, thanks so much Kathryn. I changed it to 90px. Would you mind giving it a final check please and letting me know what you think?
