Apostrophes appear as ” ’
-
I posted this a few days ago but it’s not been resolved. However, it got closed so I guess that means I have to repost.
I have an RSS feed for my blog on my website. When you go to my website (an intuit site I built myself) and view the blog (which pulls from my WordPress blog via RSS) apostrophes appear as ” ’ “. How can I fix this? http://www.ToddVaters.com is the site. Someone who replied to my previous post merely pointed out that that my sebsite is not a wordpress blog. I knew that. But since the ap automatically pulls from my WordPress blog I thought the solution might be in WordPress. Also, why don’t I get emails when someone replies to my post? The last post had two replies (neither of which solved the problem) and was closed before I could respond.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you know your site is not a wordpress blog:
a) why didn’t you put a link to your blog too?
b) how are we suppose to know if you have a wordpress blog if both your links (in post and username) are linked to a non-wordpress site?If you have a wordpress blog,
a) do you host it yourself?
b) is it hosted at wordpress.com?If A, you need to head over to:
If B, link to blog, please.

When I post there’s a drop down that has my wordpress link after “this question is regarding” so I figure the link would show up. Not sure what purpose that serves but I guess it obviously doesn’t make it clear that my blog is WordPress. My coment also calls me a member so I thought that meant I’m a wordpress blogger. At any rate, here’s the link…

Is the A or B thing about a domain name? I’m guessing I’m B but I don’t know for sure. Also, I thought my username link was my WordPress blog. I didn’t know it linked to my site until you just pointed it out but I guess I set it up that way or it woudln’t do it. Sorry I’m so green to the blog world. I’m usually fairly tech savvy but I find the blog thing confusing. I’m reading blogging for dummies. I guess that’s more appropriate than I realized.
Also, is there away to get notification when someone posts a reply? In the meantime I’m leaving this open today and refreshing it to so I don’t miss replies and so it doesn’t get misunderstood and closed before I can respond.
I appreciate your help.

Hi there Todd,
Are you kidding? This is a peer support forum. We Volunteers are your fellow bloggers and we answer questions free of charge when we have the time. No we do not provide support by email. We have more than enough enough email to cope with just to keep up with our blogging … thanks … lol :DIf you wish you can file support tickets with Staff and have them answer your questions. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
Hope this helps. :) -
What I meant was is there a way to set up automatic email notification by clicking somewhere (like the RSS feed). When someone comments on my blog I get an email about it. That’s all.
I appreciate your help.

OH my … how embarrassing. I’m so sorry Todd. Yes, we can set up comment notification by email on this page > Settings > Discussion

Yes. But no worries. My original question is my main concern (the weird symbols replacing the apostrophes). I’ve asked RSS and Intuit but haven’t heard back. If there’s something I can do with my actual blog I’d like to take care of it.
Thanks again.

Turns out I did have it set up for email notification but was only getting notified of blog comments, not forum comments. But that doesn’t matter much at this point. I would just like help fixing the weird symbols so if someone goes to my website (and not my blog) they can read the blog there without having to decipher.

Thanks for being gracious. :) We Volunteers don’t have backend access to blogs, and don’t have anything to so with the coding underlying our themes. We cannot access let alone edit templates only Staff do have such access, and only they have the knowledge as to why ASCII codes are appearing so I believe this is a matter for them. No problem. I’ll see if I hear form Intuit or RSS (where I suspect the problem lies) and if not I’ll go that route.
Thank you both.
