Appalling Service
-
The current WordPress service for my blog, (since 2012), is appalling. I have lost so much work, writing, and composition in the last few weeks that I am seriously considering forgetting WordPress entirely. The site crashes regularly, updated drafts are lost and what was once a fairly intuitive system is now unfathomable. It seems to have coincided with the latest software upgrade, or perhaps is linked to a more sinister desire to get me to purchase a higher spec blog. Whatever the reason, I have wasted many hours of work trying to write my blog and really don’t know what to do. I am very, very, unhappy with WordPress.

http://nalbymouth.wordpress.com/ doesn’t crash. Perhaps you have a computer problem? If you’re in the UK, you can thank your new anti-porn laws for blocking a great deal of WordPress including all of the image servers. Fortunately that seems to have been fixed.
If you don’t want to lose drafts, do not EVER use the New Post button. It doesn’t kick in the autosave, although it appears that it does. If you just write in the Write Post box, you should be okay.
If I were consistently having the problems you say you are having, I would absolutely use an offline blog editor like Windows Live Writer. It’s free, and it works very, very well. You can even do formatting, upload pictures, and use categories and tags. Then you hit Post, and it’s done. And if something screws up, you just hit Post again and it goes through. You always have a copy of your post on your computer, so you never lose anything.
