Apparent bug with HTML entities
-
I habitually use the HTML editor when writing posts, and am used to typing &madash; for an em dash, ½ for a half sign, and so on.
Suddenly I’m finding that when I click save draft, the & at the start of the code for a half sign gets “corrected” to & and the half sign does not appear in the post. The dashes, however, are perfectly fine.
Any idea what’s going on? I’ve used the code plenty of times in the past to insert a half sign, with no problems.
I tried exiting from the post editor and re-opening the draft, but the behaviour is the same.

What?!?! The same problem has now occurred the opposite way round in what I just posted. The CODE for the half sign should be what’s displayed, but the half sign itself has appeared.

Sorry, this is getting confusing because my posts above didn’t come out as intended either. What’s happening is: if I type some text in the post in HTML view and and include the codes “& mdash;” and “& frac12;”, the first works fine but the second is automatically amended to “& amp; frac12;” (all minus the spaces). So I can’t insert a half sign.

Yeah, looks like a bug. Looking into it. For now, you can use #189 instead of frac12 like this:
½ -
Heh, I see what you mean about the problem being backwards in the forums.
Double bug!Here’s another try:

If it’s any help, the same problem is occurring with the Twitter sidebar widget–I tweeted about the problem before posting here, and the tweets are displayed correctly at http://dabr.co.uk/user/timtfj but wrongly in the sidebar of my blog at http://timtfj.wordpress.com/
