my site is titled – tcchristensen.com

how do i get rid of the leave a reply comments section on the “about” and “contact” page? AND the “search” bar on the home page.

how do I manipulate the home page too? apparently I can add a page and title it “home” but that makes people have to go to http://mywebpage…/home instead of just a the regular URL i purcahsed and want.

how do I add an image slider to the home page?

there is a “menu” button in the upper right hand corner. when selected it brings up a drop down which shows the “home”, “about” and “contact” buttons to select. How do I make it so there is no Menu button drop down and the “home”, “about” and “contact” tabs are visible across the top?

    thanks,

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there!

Thanks for your questions. I’ve answered them all separately, below:

how do i get rid of the leave a reply comments section on the “about” and “contact” page? AND the “search” bar on the home page.

Here are the instructions to disable your comments on About and Contact:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/#enabledisable-comments

I do not see the search bar on your home page. Were you already able to fix this issue as requested?

how do I manipulate the home page too? apparently I can add a page and title it “home” but that makes people have to go to http://mywebpage…/home instead of just a the regular URL i purcahsed and want.

If you would like a static front page that your visitors will see when they visit tcchristensen.com, you can follow these instructions:

    Set the Homepage

there is a “menu” button in the upper right hand corner. when selected it brings up a drop down which shows the “home”, “about” and “contact” buttons to select. How do I make it so there is no Menu button drop down and the “home”, “about” and “contact” tabs are visible across the top?

I see you switched your theme to Sketch. Your menus will display as they are seen in the theme’s Demo page:
    https://sketchdemo.wordpress.com/

Right now, your site and the Demo site to appear to be set up similarly. The menus are similar.

Do you need further assistance with this?

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

the home page. now it has 2 “home” pages listed in the menu drop down. and the home page I want as my home page has the /home attached to it. I just want the home page to be tcchristensen.com – like a normal webpage.

tcchristensen.comso – I switched to the 2012 theme which was the only one I could find that displayed the menu pages across the top – so that works. Now the search bar is on the top in the header. how do I delete or hide this?
    thanks

    Hello there!

There are several other themes with menus that go across the top of the page, that do not have a search bar. I did a search and found some free themes with a horizontal navigation bar, for your convenience:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/penscratch/
    https://wordpress.com/themes/hemingway-rewritten/
    https://wordpress.com/themes/big-brother/
    https://wordpress.com/themes/motif/

The problem is that your theme has the search bar included as part of the design. The only way to remove it is with the Custom Design upgrade. I understand if you do not want to upgrade, however, so wanted to give you those other options.

Regarding the original issue with the menu items, it does seem as if you’ve managed to fix that issue on your own. It looks as if it’s functioning according to your needs. If I’m wrong about that, just let me know what you’re trying to do, and I can further assist.

    Thanks!

Im trying to add an image slider widget, one that will be able to include video and pic.
I cant find the “plugin page” which the internets keeps saying I need to go to to add widgets. are plugins not available for my package?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there!

Third party plugins cannot be installed on WordPress.com sites. This is a security risk as we cannot vet all outside code and it puts our users, their sites, and our servers at risk.

Plugins are only usable on self-hosted WordPress.org sites.

I know the difference between .com and .org can get confusing, so here’s a breakdown of the benefits of each:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Sometimes, even without the installation of a plugin, we can help you gain the function you’d like here at WordPress.com. If you let me know your goals, perhaps I can help further.

For instance, you can add an image slider like so:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/gallery-widget/

You can also add a video embed:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/

    Please let me know! Cheers.

Its been a while but last you said .com sites cant accept plug ins.
what do you suggest I do. Can i buy a template and use it that way?

honestly I feel I’m getting duped.

  • Unknown's avatar

the instructions for adding a gallery do not look like the gallery section on the widget page. it has a list for:main side bar, first footer sidebar, second footer siderbar, third footer sidebar, first front page sidebar, second front page sidebar.

I definitely dont want a slideshow in the side bar or in the footer – I need it on the home page full screen then a gallery of 9-12 preview vids.

do I need to buy a template?

  • Unknown's avatar

also the live site looks nothing like the site Im building in wordpress. teh color schemes and fonts are all off. It seems like this should be easier.

so what I am looking for is full page(ish) (side to side anyway) slideshow with both images and video.
then a gallery of preview videos below that.

so a big box slideshow then 9-12 little boxes below the big box slideshow.

    Hey there!

You’re not being duped, I promise. I think there can be A LOT of confusion though, and rightly so. WordPress.org and WordPress.org have such similar names, afterall! We (WordPress.com) do not make a profit from WordPress software, any plugins, or themes that self-hosted sites install. WordPress.org is so flexible because it doesn’t have to follow the same regulations we have for sites hosted at WordPress.com. It’s the wild west of WordPress. :)

WordPress.com, on the other hand, is full service…but there are limitations to what we can support.

As anyone in the world can make a plugin, we can’t vet them all, and can’t assure the safety of our servers if we allow them to be installed. And as we haven’t developed them, we also cannot support them if they break in anyway.

I definitely dont want a slideshow in the side bar or in the footer – I need it on the home page full screen then a gallery of 9-12 preview vids.

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to find a template that does this EXACTLY, but I’m going to do my darnedest to try.

    Here is what I’m thinking:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/full-frame/

    https://wordpress.com/themes/on-demand/

    https://wordpress.com/themes/swell/

Generally, I try to give a mix of free and premium themes, but with your specifications, I’m not finding a free theme that will suit your needs.

Let me know if I’m getting closer.

    Thanks!

Before I pull the trigger on a template. Will you tell me for sure if I can add video in the slideshow for the homepage on the theme Swell: https://wordpress.com/themes/swell/

    thanks

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there!

Take a look at Surf’s Demo:

    https://swelldemo.wordpress.com/

You’ll see that the “header” can be video footage.

Also, if you scroll down, you’ll see how you can add video to your Recent Projects section. Click on one of those projects to see how it connects to a page with video embedded.

That might be the closest to a “slideshow” you’d get…more of a gallery area, really.

Finally, Swell has a secondary video area that you’ll see when you scroll down the page until you see “Want to work with us?”

I highly suggest navigating the demo for the theme to make certain you like the tools, and the appearance of the site/video.

If you have questions, you can let me know. You can also ask the theme’s developer directly:

    http://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/swell

    Thanks again.

    The On Demand theme:

I went ahead and bought that. the people who make the On Demand
(heres the demo on there site http://www.press75.com/themes/on-demand) have a totally updated layout and its $6 less.

How about we really make this simple . All I need is an image and video slider and then 2 or 3 rows of images to click on that are vids below that.

What can you do to help me STOP wasting any more money on this AND help me understand how to do this correctly. I want it to look exactly like the ad – preferably the updated version. You guys need to update and even ad tutorials or have someone get back to people in a timely manner. Ive been pretty much asking the same question for a week now.

    Hi there,

You bought a template that wasn’t on the WordPress.com theme showcase I linked for you.

Third party themes can’t be uploaded to sites hosted on WordPress.com. They can only be uploaded to self-hosted blogs running on WordPress.org software. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org here:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

On WordPress.com, you can select from a variety of themes to change your blog’s appearance. You can read more about customizing the appearance and theme of your blog on WordPress.com here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

We offer over 300 themes, both free themes and premium themes created by leading theme companies. You can view all of our themes and filter them by specific criteria here:

    http://wordpress.com/themes

You can also post suggestions for new themes we might add on our public user forum:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-to-use-the-themes-forum

    Thank you.

  • Unknown's avatar

no. this is the theme I bought – https://wordpress.com/themes/on-demand/

this is a theme you recommended.

now were getting to the point where I need my money back – all of it, this is a joke. how soon can you refund everything!

  • Unknown's avatar

you need to help fix this. you’re clearly not paying attention and i’ve been asking the same question over and over.

when you or someone at wordpress the knows the on demand theme set up a time for a real time chat.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there!

Sorry for the confusion. The demo site for WordPress.com’s version of the theme On Demand is here:

    https://ondemanddemo.wordpress.com/

You can find some support topics for that theme here:

    https://wordpress.com/themes/on-demand/support/

And there’s a theme-specific forum available for you here:

    https://premium-themes.forums.wordpress.com/forum/on-demand

Now, the request you had before the theme confusion was about a video and image slider. We do not have video sliders here at WordPress.com. We do have the theme Swell, which Robyn linked you to previously. The Swell theme supports background videos.

If you require a video slider for your site, you may be interested in a self hosted WordPress.
