The only themes we can use on free hosted WordPress.com blogs like your blog are the themes found here http://wordpress.com/themes/
There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.com blogs for security reasons and we cannot:
upload any third party themes,
create child themes,
create our own themes,
edit templates,
create own own layouts,
or use stylesheets from other themes.http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/There is no upgrade you can purchase that changes that. WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can create themes, upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, and edit the database, etc. Learn about the differences here. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
If you want FTP access and to install plugins or third party themes into a site then you will have to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up your own WordPress.org install.
There is no FTP access and no blogger installed plugin capability on any free hosted WordPress.com blogs.

http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/There is no upgrade you can purchase here that provides FTP access and the ability to install plugins and or any third party themes.

I am a real novice so excuse my ignorance but I am on .org and do pay a fee? I had the editor and even managed to add a font (that is now gone) to a draft post. Somehow between this week and last week the editor has gone missing?

This is a free blog being free hosted by WordPress.com http://travelswithyaoyao.wordpress.com/ and provide provide support for it here. There is no FTP access, no blogger installed plugin capability and no ability to upload any third party themes to that blog.

WordPress.com sells custom design upgrades. They allow us to “preview” change that do not actually display on the blog unless we purchase the upgrade.
If you have not purchased the custom design upgrade note that no changes you try out aside from those such as Custom Background, Custom Header, etc. which are stated on the theme description pages in the features column (right hand side) will be visible to visitors.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/editing-css/
http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-fonts/You do not need to load the design tools unless you have the Custom Design upgrade. All of these functions can be accessed from your dashboard – without loading the custom design tools – no upgrade required.
Appearance > Header
Appearance > Background
Appearance > Theme Options (applicable only to some themes)
Settings > Reading (set a static front page)
Site Title and Tagline > Settings > GeneralIf you are using the preview mode for the Custom Design upgrade some of the settings in that mode will save but they won’t show up on the front end unless you purchase the upgrade.
To go back to the free options, go to Appearance → Themes → Customize → Colors and click the “exit the preview” link in yellow at the top of the panel on the right.

Ok, figured it out. I have both .com and .org and that is why I have been so confused. I want to continue with wordpress.org so do I just delete the other acct? If so will if anyone types in travelswithyaoyao will it take them to the .org site (which I am about to launch?)
-
As the wordpress.com blog is private I would keep it and periodically export and import content into it so I had a backup blog on completely different servers from my main blog.
-
Here’s my issue. Everytime I write travelswithyaoyao it brings up the .com site not the .org site. My concern is once I go live people will be going to the wrong site. I have tried using other computers as a test and it always brings up the .com site. The only way to get to the other site is if I put in the wp-admin. That is the only reason I was thinking I should shut down the .com site.

Hi there!
To avoid confusing your readers, I would suggest purchasing a Site Redirect upgrade.
With the upgrade active on your WordPress.com blog, anyone who visits “http://travelswithyaoyao.wordpress.com/” will be forwarded to your WordPress.org blog at “http://travelswithyaoyao.com/”. Let me know if you need help in implementing this. Thanks!

Hi,
Thanks so much for this info. I will give it a try and if I fumble, I will take you up on your kind offer. Is there any advantage or any reason I should keep both sites? If I delete the .com site does it affect my .org site? Thanks.
-
Deleting your .com site will not affect your .org site, except that anyone who visits your .com site may be surprised to find it no longer exists. I would keep both and purchase the Redirect upgrade. :)
In addition, I noticed that you haven’t exported the contents of the .com site to the .org site yet. If you’d like a guide on doing that, please see our support page:
And please refer to this page on importing the XML file into your .org site:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_Content#WordPress
Let me know if at any point you need further help. Best of luck!

Also I don’t think you can buy the site redirect for a deleted blog – so deleting would be very bad – also deleting takes away all your options – set to private and site redirect as advised above is best

Thanks so much. I am going to attempt this today (gulp). I did have someone import all my info to the .org site but still have it private until I can figure out how to make some changes to the Title font and so on. Baby steps today.
Thanks everyone!
