Appearance Questions
-
Hello,
I’m encountering two issues I can’t seem to figure out. Would love anyone’s thoughts or insights!
1) How to make a post sticky: I set up the page to include a static area where my 6 “sticky” posts could cycle through. However, once I set up those 6 posts, I have not been able to successfully swap in a different post. Under “posts,” I’ve unchecked “Make this post sticky” and checked a different post, but instead, it just leaves the viewing area blank. However, if I re-check the original post, it makes it sticky again. I just can’t seem to introduce any new posts into this area.
2) Adding a new category to my primary navigation menu at the top. I’ve looked under Appearance > Menus but the new category I created (“Brazil”) is not listed here. Where would I be able to add or activate it to be included here? Thanks so much for your help!

The slider displays up to six sticky posts. The “recent articles” section displays your latest three (non-sticky) posts. The “more articles” section displays the rest of your recent posts; the number of posts it displays is set in Settings > Reading.
More Articles section displays posts that are not in the featured category section (the latest six posts from the chosen category) to prevent duplicated contents show up on the home page.

Please consult the detailed theme description here http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/oxygen/ There are also many threads that explain how the Oxygen theme is designed to operate.
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/tags/oxygenIn Oxygen you can either have a Home page that displays your posts or a static front page ie. a Showcase template. http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/#setting-up-a-static-front-page
Page templates can be set under the “Page Attributes” section on the page editor screen. For more information on Page Attributes:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/page-attributes/Showcase page template
When you first activate Oxygen, you’ll see your posts in a traditional blog format but if you’d like to showcase your content in an online magazine-like fashion, then you can use the Showcase Page template. …Post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide, unless you make the post Sticky to show off in the featured slider, in which case they’re 750 pixels wide. Keep in mind: if you mark a post as Sticky but the featured image is less than 750 pixels wide, then it won’t display in the slider and will still disappear from the river of posts.
Please be aware that you cannot crop the sticky post thumbnails.
Sticky post thumbnails are 750 pixels wide in the featured slider
Regular post thumbnails are 470 pixels wide

2) Adding a new category to my primary navigation menu at the top.
I see it in your custom menu and at this link http://breakingintobusch.wordpress.com/category/around-the-world/brazil/

Thanks so much, this was really helpful. I did end up figuring out how to add a new category shortly after posting my question, which is why you were able to see it after all.
I realized after reading your posts that the issue I had with making a particular post sticky was that the thumbnail I was using was 480 pixels wide, so I figured out how to resize and reload the image. All set now.
Thank you!
