Appearance tab has disappeared

    (Brief background: I’m a volunteer working on my group’s existing website and I have no experience with WordPress 3.9.2 or creating websites.)

    I’ve created a new page and I’d like to add it to the menu at the top of the screen. I know I need to go to my Appearance button to add the new page to the menu but I can’t find the Appearance button.

    In Dashboard, I get a list of options on the left hand side of the screen. I think that the Appearance button should be between Feedback and Profile but there is nothing there.

    Does anybody have any ideas why the button is gone and how to get it back?

    Hi,

    Do you need help with http://whoop92.wordpress.com or do you need help with a different site?

    You need to be an administrator to be able to change the appearance:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator

    Hi Honeysilvas,

    Yes, it’s for a different site. I didn’t realize that my original post referenced my new personal blog. Thanks for the answer.

    This also answers the question of why I had to create a personal account to post a question to the forums!

    It looks like I can create and publish the pages I need but I’ll have to get the previous web person to give me the admin rights or get them to make changes to the menu for me.

    You’ll probably hear from me again after I try to grapple with concept of plugins and iframe.

    If it’s for a different site, I suspect your other site might be a self-hosted blog because plugins and iframes are not supported here at WordPress.com.

    These are the allowed codes in WordPress.com:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#html-tags

    And these are the only available plugins. They are pre-installed and you can’t add more.
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/

    If you do have a self-hosted blog, you need to ask support from WordPress.org instead. Their support forum is at http://wordpress.org/support/

    Again, HUGE thanks to you for this info. Now I understand why I haven’t been able to figure that out.

    It’s time for a sit down with the site’s previous administrator. Hopefully, we can figure out how to use what we are able to do to get what we want done.
