Appending Digg, StumbleUpon buttons to every post…
-
How can I have “StumbleThis” and “DiggThis” buttons automatically appended to the footer of each of my posts? There is an option in the WordPress settings under “Reading” where I have enabled this in an ‘enhanced feed’, but they do not appear. My blog is http://animalsneedkisses.wordpress.com – if anyone could help I’d really appreciate it, as the only social bookmarking options seem to be that del.icio.us sidebar widget, which is not really what I have in mind…
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

That’s pretty lousy. Why is WordPress.com jerking us so hard on this one? There must be gazillions of people who want this functionality in their blogs.

You could use the Get Social bookmark bar but will have to manually
add the bookmark bar to your post.Get Social Screen cast tutorial

Hi woneill
I’m a big fan of using Add This as both a sidebar widget and manually entering the code at the bottom of each post.
Instructions for manually entering the code into each post can be found at http://support.wordpress.com/addthis/This involves selecting “on a website” when asked where you would like the button.
This manual-per-post code obviously works for that post only. I find that I have to enter the code, save the post as a draft and then delete any superfluous code that WordPress doesn’t automatically strip out. I also like to add target=”blank” so that it opens a new window.
Code for a wordpress.com sidebar widget can be found at http://www.addthis.com/web-button-select after you select “on a blog” when asked where you would like the button.
The sidebar widget works on whatever page the visitor is currently on while looking at your blog, whether it is simply the home page or a specific post. Therefore its usefulness is debatable (I know, I’ve had those debates!) but I like it.
I hope that helps

Thanks for the help, everyone – I am going to give Add This a shot.
I still think this is not great, though. It seems like such an obvious thing for WordPress.com to give us, there must be some greater reason that they insist against doing it…

woneill,
Do you know that you can link your name to your blog, so that people can find your work easily when you make comments?Go into your dashboard -> users -> your profile -> then scroll down to 'contact info'. In the spot where it says 'website' fill in the address of your blog and save the changes. Now... when you comment here and on other blogs, your name will link to your blog. If you do this before you post your request for help, it will allow forum volunteers to be able to help you quicker since they won't have to ask you for a link and wait until you come back to post one.from: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/7-things-to-know-before-posting-in-wordpresscom-forums?replies=1

The reason they don’t allow the auto option for the bookmark bar
here at WordPress.com is because it requires Java Script,Java Script isn’t allowed here for security reasons.
Users are not allowed to post JavaScript on WordPress.com blogs. Javascript can be used for malicious purposes.

Thanks, 1tess! I have now done that.
And thanks to you also, teck7, for satisfying my intellectual curiousity. Oh that I were a computers programmers; I would embark upon the worthy project of making something like the bookmark bar that wouldn’t require Javascript and would be so good that wordpress.com would incorporate it into everybody’s blogs automatically…!

Oh, and for the record, I would prefer to use Get Social if I could, because of Add This’ currently-page-only limitation, but I have a Mac – so another development idea: Get Social for Mac!
