Apply which update first (WP core, PHP, Plug-ins)

What is the best sequence of events when multiple update show up at the same time (as is with the current version WP5.5) The site says update PHP required, there are 14 Plug-in updates waiting and to make matters worse I hear WP5.5 is breaking more sites than a bull in a china shop!! Do I update WP5.5, then give it the new PHP and then update the plugins?? Do I upgrade php, then WP, then Plug in? or plugins first then wp then php.
You see my dilemma? I really don’t want to break the site…..again!

  • Hi there!

On WordPress.com we take care of the software updates for you so, I’m afraid that your site is not hosted with us. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted elsewhere.

Because WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two entirely separate entities, we cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so we can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. You can read more about the differences between WordPress.org software and WordPress.com here:
    https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

You can look for help at the community forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/

http://wordpress.org/support/ is also a great resource for sites using the open-source WordPress.org software.
