Appoint Blog Admin?
-
Is there any way to appoint other members as an admin of your blog. So that we can share the same blog and both post, and use the admin panel?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)
-
That is a VERY dangerous thing to do since when you make someone an admin, they can delete all your stuff, and then can even remove you from your own blog.
I would never make anyone anything higher than an author unless you would literally trust them with your life. You wouldn’t believe the number of people that have come to these forums saying that someone they made an administrator deleted all their stuff, or removed them from their blog and stuff like that. You should be the only administrator, period.

I didn’t know there were different levels of admins. I was only planning on having a friend become an “author”. But thanks anyways. This helped a lot.

I thought WordPress made it so the blog creator couldn’t be removed, at least It was that way a while back.
-
Staff said – I thought – in a recent thread that they could. I thought that was a little strange myself. At any rate, it is a really bad idea since they can if they wished delete all posts and pages and anything that had been put into a widget.

A change has been made by staff. We can no longer delete the original Administrator from our dashboards. We must contact staff to have this done.
See: “Transfer Note: For security purposes, there is no way to remove the original creator/owner from their blog. As such, if you wish to transfer your blog to another user/account, please follow the instructions here.” http://support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

Here is the thread I was talking about. If you make someone on a blog an admin they can delete the blog according to Mark: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/whats-the-difference-between-administrators-editors-etc?replies=4#post-373688 .

I think the new Support Doc (last updated Oct 7,2009 ) trumps the comment by Mark from August, since it is later, but let’s ask. Mark?
-
The thing is that the change where owners or blogs could only be deleted happened about a year ago. I thought it was strange that Mark said that, but figured they had made another change of some sort.
-
About a month or so ago I was also surprised when I looked at the “My Blogs” section of my Dashboard and saw the word “Transfer” come up on mousing over under my blog’s name, so there was definitely a change.
But it still isn’t clear to me whether the original owner of the blog can be deleted by the new owner or not, which is why I’d appreciate the additional clarification on that point.
-
I just tested it on a blog I’m an admin on – you can NOT remove the blog creator. Where the checkbox it to do it on other admins, it’s not there for the creator.
-
Deleting the blog and removing the original Admin are two different things, though. Subsequent admins can do the first any time. They can only remove the original admin with staff assistance.
-
I’m still confused on this point. There seems to be contradictory information in the Support Docs
Here http://en.support.wordpress.com/adding-users/ it says
Transfer Note: For security purposes, there is no way to remove the original creator/owner from their blog. As such, if you wish to transfer your blog to another user/account, please follow the instructions here.
and following that link to http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account it says in the screenshot
You will be removed as owner of XXXXX.wordpress.com
Still looking for clarification.

Although this is an old topic, I wanted to note that even though another admin can’t remove the blog creator, they still have access to delete the blog. But, it will send an email to the admin confirming this step – where unless they got access to your email, they couldn’t.
-
But the admin deciding to delete the blog IS an admin, and can receive and approve that deletion. It happens quite frequently among certain flightless waterfowl.
