Approval to use code
-
Hello. I would like to be able to use the code supplied by GoFundMe to embed our community choir fundraising initiative into our Free WordPress site. How can I seek approval please?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi –
Please tell me where you are trying to add the code. A specific post, or page, or widget? I don’t know if the code will be permitted as there are some limits but if you share it with us here we can take a look.

Hello. I am on a free plan and trying to put it into a post here https://mixedbeanschoir.wordpress.com/fundraising/. I have read that it is not permitted unless on a premium plan, but there was an indication that WP might approve, as suggested “If you feel it’s being stripped out improperly, or if you would like to suggest additional types of code we should allow, please contact support.”
Thanks -
Their code requires JavaScript, which is currently only allowed under the Business Plan: https://en.support.wordpress.com/code/#javascript
You can, however, still link to the GoFundMe page, you just won’t be able to embed their widget.

Thank you. i am aware of that. I wanted to see if this request could be progressed as an additional type of code you should allow, as GoFundMe is a legitimate initiative that has quite a high level of uptake. We cannot afford a business plan, as we are a not for profit community group that has to self-fund in order to pay fro our musical director’s fees.

We don’t allow JavaScript for security reasons. GoFundMe is legitimate, but the same code used to embed a GoFundMe widget, can also be modified and used to inject malware into a site. As regular WordPress.com sites share their underlying code, having that happen on just one site can have consequences for many sites more, so it’s not a risk we can take. Sites on our Business Plan don’t share their code with other sites, so there site owners can use JavaScript code at their own risk.
For us to support GoFundMe embeds, GoFundMe will have to support the oEmbed protocol from their end first – that is a way to embed content using only a link, not JavaScript, and is the recommended way for doing embeds across the web.
So perhaps reach out to their support and ask if they’d consider adding support for that protocol. Once they do, they can contact us directly to ask that we add support for them on our end. More info here:

I will do and thanks for such a comprehensive explanation. They gave me a code fro sites that do not support Java, and that was the one that I had used, but it does not seem to embed it. This is what they gave me. Can you advise if this is usable & how I put it in please?
If your website doesn’t support JavaScript but does support other HTML please use this code: https://www.gofundme.com/mvc.php?route=widgets/mediawidget&fund=launch-mixed-beans-into-their-next-decade&image=1&coinfo=1&preview=1

Unfortunately the code they gave me is not showing. How can I send you a screenshot please?

Hi there,
GoFundMe’s support page on widget embeds supports the
embedHTML tag which is not supported on WordPress.com. You can read more here:
