Arbitrary text widget has become hidden after switching themes
-
I recently switched to a trendy theme, some new one with red letters, and it caused the top text widget to be hidden unknown to me till I found out two days later when I saw my clustrmap had vanished, I went into the widget area and saw it was gone, then I added a new text box to insert the code and some other links again only to find then when I saved and checked the results, BOTH text boxes were showing, there were two clustrmap images and my old links below it that were also in the same text box but strangely it was placed lower in the list of stuff, no longer at the top position I had placed it, and in the top position was the new text box. In frustration I deleted the new code and switched back to my previous theme and the original text box showed back up at the top like last time, ONLY IT’S MISSING IN THE WIDGET PANEL. What in the world? I’d really like to read the explanation for this bizarrity.

I don’t know which theme you originally had or which one you changed to. When I change theme I place all text widgets in the “Inactive Widgets” box and after the theme change I drag them out of the “Inactive Widgets” box and place them in the sidebar box(es), click on them to open them, confirm the content is in the widget and then click “Save” and “Close”.
I know that every theme has a suggested display of what appears to be widgets in the sidebar and that in fact it’s just a display. When we go here > Appearance > Widgets we do not find widgets appearing in the default display and if we move a single widget that choice will over-ride the default display. This is easy to “fix”. We simply drag and drop the widgets we choose to use into the sidebar(s) boxes in the positions we choose to place them. Then we open all the widgets one at a time, set them up and then click “Save” and “Close”.
I also know that when you use the iNove theme as you are now that the theme options allow you to remove the sidebar display of widgets.
iNove Theme Options
Appearance > Themes > Theme Options
Sidebar ___ Hide sidebar from all pages.I also know that if you have created a Custom Menu Widget that it will over-ride the previous widget display. http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/custom-menu-widget/

That’s why the blog looked familiar when I looked at it this morning!
(I didn’t have an answer for him though.)
