Archive Drop down list

  I’ve seen on other pages using the same theme as I am that they have drop down lists for Archives, rather than just showing the months in a list, which takes up more space. How do I do this?

  Are those WordPress.com blogs, or independent blogs using WordPress software? They are different.

  It helps if you can give us direct links to the examples you’re talking about.
